Prince George, B.C. - Gambling in Prince George, at the Treasure Cove Casino or the Bingo hall (whether it be the old Goodtime Bingo or new Chances site) racked up $66.3 million dollars in profit.
That’s up $6 million from the previous year.
That will trickle down to $3,039, 251  being handed over to the local government, up from last year’s $2,859,167
With 550 slots at the Treasure Cove, and another 79 at Chances, the slots alone generated $47.33 million, the tables generated $4 million more, and the bingo seats contributed $15 million.

For the Province overall, gaming produced a net income of $1.089 billion dollars.

Taxation by stupidity. Right?
Random patterns of rienforcement - = gambleing at the casinos. That's why they can't stay away.
I lost my house, truck, my wife and kids and then went to counseling. I’m lucky to have a job and all that I’m hooked on is Opinion 250. Now I know my limit and play within it.

Disgusting.
Of course they never mentioned the families they destroyed doing all this either....
Oh righ they have this feel good phrase...
know your limit and play within it....
if they could you wouldn't need that cutsie little catch phrase.
Campbell is getting his cut you can be sure of that.
How come I remember thigs afertwards. Remember Campbell dumping all over the NDP when they were going to add a few slots. There was nothing but S**T and abuse thrown at the NDP. Campbell has more than doubled gambling in this province since he lied his way in.
These places rob you of your destiny
My dad has a local coffee club in town and there have been at least 3 local suicides due to gambling since these gambling places opened.
Be for warned late bills, extra expenses vehicle breakdowns, all these are excuses used by gamblers to cover up the money they are using to feed their addiction.

I know I was one
I own a boat. It's cost me way more then some petty slot's addiction over the years. Guess I should'a built a casino instead.
You are not allowed to build a casino. You can own all the boats you want, but all gambling in PG goes through one man.
An absolutely awful statistic.
The amount of money sucked out of the community hurts not only the families of gamblers, but also all the businesses whose sales are down as a result of the loss of peoples' spending money.
A shameful situation created by a morally bankrupt government.

This crowd of nitwits could have used some of their dirty money from gambling to fight global warming instead of sticking us with another tax.
What exactly does "$66.3 million dollars in profit" mean? Does anyone on here know?

I assume it to be

1. after winning payout.
2. payout for operating the casinos to the owner, including paying off capital costs of the facility as well as the gaming and other equipment.
3. payout of a profit to the owner.
4. payout of all taxes to feds, province, city.

What is left is paid to the province as the profit.

So, how much money is actually fed into the system by the gambling customers? Looks like that might be close to the budget of the City.

If that is about right, to put this thing into context, the law could be changed so that the city could run this facility instead of the province and neither business nor residents would have to pay property tax for the city.
Gambling = Voluntary tax.
Right on MrPG... Gambling=Voluntary tax
It's a passtime and lots of people get lots of enjoyment from it. Some can afford it - Some can't - Some get addicted - Some don't. It's not fair to deny a pleasure from the majority to protect the minority. If you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen. I'am sorry for those that are addicted but there are addictive pitfalls all throught our society. Get help, learn to handle it. Do not deprive those who can control their life.
I go to the Treasure Cove for some concerts and walk through the slot machine area. I never see anyone smiling as they are playing. To me that says it all.
If it was'nt for the Treasure Cove the concerts would not be here. Say "thank you" to all the loosers.
All the odds are in the favor of these gambling hell holes
Concerts? .....

Brian Adams was in town and I did not know it? Buffy St. Marie? ... Willie Nelson? ....

When they were showing the drawings of the proposed casino they had a show lounge with a second floor in the plans. In fact, when some were talking about a Performing Arts Centre at that time, several councillors who had seen the proposal were saying to just wait, there will be a private developer coming in to build a performing arts centre.

When they eventually said who and what it was, I had to laugh (or cry) realizing that we are so badly off in this cvommunity that there were actually councillors who did not know the difference between a show lounge and a performing arts centre.

Anyway, out of that proposed two level show lounge we got a a circular space with a flat floor and a bunch of little round tables and some chairs around them.

Then we got an attempt at getting some shows going. The first few had some national talent coming to town that were working the show lounge circuit. We went to a couple (Colin James was one in 2006) and they suggested that they would be doing one show at that calibre per week.

Well ... that died relatively quickly. Shows like that don't just happen. They have to be promoted properly. Don't expect the same people that frequent the casino to frequent the show lounge. This is not Vegas. This is not Vancouver. It might be more like Langley.

So, you can see primarily local or regional talent whenever they decide to do something there.

Here is a link to the Summit Lounge in Langley. 450 seats. True cabaret style seating on the main floor so that one can sit with food and drinks. The balcony seating is more theatre style.

Treasure Cove has 250 seats if people are packed like sardines.

Say thank you to the loosers? Obviously they are not losing enough to support a proper show lounge with some good entertainment.

Classic :)

In Las Vegas ya get to drink free alcoholic drinks while yer feeding the one armed bandits and at the tables down there. Here ya have to stay on their purple carpet to drink. But here we can buy a $2 dollar orange soda pop while we gamble. Whoop-de-do!! Are we world class or what? Payouts are better in Vegas anyway.
No more free drinks in Vegas. You gotta go to Reno for free booze
I was just there. Vegas still serves free drinks as long as you're playing.

As for gambling, most people can do it without getting addicted. Unfortunately, a few do. So should we take it away from everybody to protect a few?
"As for gambling, most people can do it without getting addicted. Unfortunately, a few do. So should we take it away from everybody to protect a few?"

Nope, but perhaps we should limit the extent to which these tyes of operations are allowed (sort of like we did many years ago). Personally, I think it's out of control. The governments are addicted to the gaming revenues, to hell about the other consequences to the communities the facilities reside in.

Honestly, does Prince George really need two different venues where people can play the slots, especially when the developments themselves are nothing to write home about?

Limit them? How? How many slot machines 'should' PG have in your opinion? You ask 100 people you'll get 100 different answers. Who's right?

I actually agree that gambling has become way too mainstream, but I'm not willing to go to the extent of saying that we should limit it somehow because a few people have problems with it.
"Limit them? How?"

Simple, don't allow the facilities to be built.
