Prince George, B.C. - Northern Health is operating close to a break-even position early in the 2008-2009 fiscal year.
The financial report  delivered to the most recent Board meeting shows a very small surplus of $171,000 for the first two months of the new fiscal year.
The Northern Health Region’s operating budget for this year is $589 million dollars.
"We expect the budget to remain tight this year," said Charles Jago, chair of the Northern Health Board. "Our financial staff will continue to review spending and search for efficiencies, and we will also look
for other ways to enhance existing forms of revenue such as out of province and country billings."

Yet the NIHU is short of nurses and other health care workers. If they could be hired, where would the money to pay them come from, thin air? Or, is there no intention of locating health care workers, no intention of improving services, no intention of serving the public?
If they had enough nurses and other healthcare workers they would not have to pay those that they do have overtimes wages. So those funds would be used to pay for the additional healthcare workers. It's amazing how much overtime costs.
Wow, Charles Jago is the Chair of the board. The man never ceases to amaze me.

VERY good point chloe.
