Prince George, B.C. – A panhandler who faced charges in Prince George for mischief and uttering threats is running up against City Hall in Williams Lake.
Robert Inglis was in court in Williams Lake on Friday, facing charges of uttering threats. He has been remanded in custody until next Wednesday.
Inglis is the same man a court in Prince George banned from P.G. as part of his two year probation for uttering threats and mischief. (see P.G. Pan Handler Faces Charges)
Inglis returned to Williams Lake and the Mayor there is not willing to put out the welcome mat “We want him off the streets” says Mayor Scott Nelson, “Even as we were in court he was cursing and swearing at the judge. We don’t want him in Williams Lake.”
Mayor Nelson had sent letters to the Court, the RCMP and Crown Counsel. In the letter, Nelson described Inglis as having a history of violent behaviour. In fact, it was the 100 incidents said to have involved Inglis that sparked Williams Lake to invoke a panhandling bylaw two years ago.
During his Friday court appearance, Inglis asked the Judge to transfer him to Kamloops, but the Judge wasn’t giving in. Instead, Mr, Inglis remains in custody waiting for his next appearance.
“Its better to keep him in jail where he might get some help” says Mayor Nelson who wants Inglis banned from Williams Lake for five years.
Nelson says he will continue his effort to have Inglis removed from his community “At the end of the day, I want him off the streets, that’s the priority for me. The rights of Mr. Inglis should not supersede the rights of the community to be safe. I am extraordinarily pleased that he is in jail right now.”

Surely there must be some bleeding hearts willing to put up with Inglis in PG? I thought PG Downtown was being set up just for these types of nuisance people?
