Man Charged with Manslaughter in Gitanmaax Stabbing

New Hazelton, BC - New Hazelton RCMP and the North District Major Crime Unit are presently investigating the murder of Floyd Mowatt Jr, 29, from the First Nations community of Gitanmaax, northwest of New Hazelton.
On the morning of Saturday, July 26, 2008, New Hazelton RCMP were called to a disturbance in a parking lot on Bench Road in Gitanmaax. Upon their arrival, police found Floyd Mowatt Jr to be fatally stabbed. Another adult female was located at the scene with a stab wound to her body. She was treated and released from hospital the same day.
During the course of their investigation, police identified a suspect.
A 22-year-old man from Gitanmaax has since been charged with Manslaughter and Aggravated Assault. He is scheduled to appear in Burns Lake Provincial court on Wednesday, July 30, at 1:30 pm. His name is not being released pending his first court appearance.
