RCMP Update Info On Fatal Crash on Highway 16

Prince George, B.C. - The RCMP North District Traffic Services has updated the circumstances of the fatal motor vehicle collision, which occurred around 11:25 am, on Highway #16, approximately one kilometre east of the Tete Jaune Weigh Scales, near Valemount, B.C. 

Three people have now been confirmed to have died in the collision and two people injured;  one with critical injuries and one with non-life threatening injuries.  The two  are being flown to Edmonton for further medical treatment.

Information, at this time, indicates six vehicles were involved in the collision, which include two motorcycles, three passenger vehicles and a commercial transport unit.  Four of the vehicles involved were parked in a rest area when the collision occurred.  All three deceased and the critically injured individual were all occupants of the same vehicle. 

Police are confirming the details of the collision, the role each of the vehicles played and who was in each vehicle before releasing any details on the vehicles or their origin. The names are the deceased are being withheld, pending the notification of the next of kin.

Police investigators remain on the scene of the collision, with a Collision Reconstructionist, documenting the physical evidence.  The highway remains closed at this time and it is anticipated it will remained closed for a few more hours  to facilitate the investigation.

Weather conditions at the time of the collision provided for dry sunny conditions with partially overcast skies.

I hope the survivor is strong enough to get through the next few months because him/her has obviously just been devastated. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out four people in a motor home in the Rockies were probably fairly close to one another.
