Prince George, B.C. - Northern Health is advising residents in the Prince George area there will be electrical system upgrade work at Prince George Regional Hospital this week. The hospital will switch to back-up generator power during the overnight hours July 29th, 30th and 31st while staff upgrade the facilitys main electrical systems.

The first phase of work will take place from 9:00 PM tonight until 6:00 AM tomorrow. The second and third phases of the upgrade project will take place from 11:00 PM to 6:00 AM July 30th and 31st. The hospital will switch to power from its back-up generators during these periods.

Patients and visitors may notice reduced lighting levels inside and outside of the hospital (including parking lot lighting), and some elevators will be out of service. Extra security staff will be available for parking lot escorts and patrols.

Patients should continue to visit or call Prince George Regional Hospital as they normally would during the electrical upgrade.

Better late than never. If they had done the work properly, or thoroughly when they put those new generators in a few years ago, there would not have been an emergency situation a while back when the automatic switching failed, leaving much of the hospital without power, suddenly.
