Prince George, B.C. - Road improvements for the intersection at Highway 16 and Blackwater Road will be completed this fall.
"This work will improve safety for travellers at this busy intersection," said Prince George-Omineca MLA John Rustad. "The B.C. Government is committed to ensuring residents and visitors to region are as safe as possible on the roads, especially with the increase in log hauling due to the Mountain Pine Beetle epidemic."
Kode Contracting Ltd., located in Prince George, won with a bid of $2,272,287.50. The construction contract is the final component of the project, valued at $3 million.
Work will commence August 1, 2008 and will be completed by September 30, 2008.
The resurfacing project will address prohibited truck turns, and improve traffic movements, site distance and safety. The upgrades will provide a higher level of service to residents and support the extensive amount of industrial traffic due to expanded log hauling resulting from the mountain pine beetle wood harvesting. Blackwater Road services a number of rural residents that commute from the area into Vanderhoof and is also a feeder road for the logging industry.
There will be minor delays with up to 20 minute closures and 35 minute total delays.
