Prince George, B.C. – A stolen vehicle out of Quesnel has sparked Police activity along highway 97 south of Prince George.
RCMP say the stolen Toyota Land Rover pulled out of Quesnel and in its place, there was a vehicle that had been stolen out of Victoria.
The Toyota Land Rover ran out of gas and was off to the side of Highway 97.
The vehicle's rightful owner, was heading north to Prince George and spotted his stolen vehicle pulled off the side of the road. He called Police.
Figuring the pair would likely steal another vehicle, officers gathered near Patterson Road, and were prepared to put out a spike belt should they get word the suspects had stolen another vehicle.
Meantime, seems the suspects (a man and a woman) had started walking away from the stolen vehicle.
An RCMP Traffic Unit member, saw them walking along the side of the highway and pulled over to check them out.  The two took off into the bush.
The RCMP Dog Unit was called in and picked up a track, leading officers to a pair of suspects.
A 39 year old man and 48 year old woman, both from Chilliwack, are now in custody in Prince George and face a string of charges.

GREAT JOB by the cops on this one! Now hopefully the judge will do his/her job and punish these two accordingly......How about jail time AND 100 hours cleaning up known garbage dump spots. Just a thought.......
Maybe we need a special section on here for the police beat......

;-(
that would be great if we could have a Court Report Section or Police Beat!!

Good idea Owl!!!
They should have a section here that reports the judges names that keep letting these scumbags go all the time.
One for the crown prosecutors that assist the judges as well.
From when I called Ben and told him what I heard about this story unfolding, till he had the story confirmed and up on the website was less than an hour. When he called back to tell me what had happened,I told him he was quick getting the facts of the story together he says "That's cause we're newsmen here" Ya got that right. Sure glad that you are out there as enthusiastic as ever with what you do. That was my first ever "news tip" and you made it a fun experience.Glad it all played out the way it should've. Thanks Ben.Keep up the good work.
Hey Matt, I'm with you. Put them to work with no pay or benefit package. Using garbage to pick up garbage is a great idea. Chester
Uh, Viking, a call was most likely made to the detachment and a media release was probably faxed to the media, including opinion 250. Police aren't going to release information until things are under control and someone's in custody.

This is one instance where good old fashioned luck was on the side of the vehicle's owner and the police.

Actually a customer of mine had just driven through the incident as it was unfolding, he came to my shop, told me what he'd seen, I called and advised Ben, and as I said, withing 40 minutes the situation HAD been resolved, and Ben was the first, and from what I've seen, the only news outlet in PG to report the incident. The whole point of my post was to praise Ben and his staff's good work
The police arrested them, but even if it makes it to court, it will get thrown out. They were just 2 innocent people walking down the highway. They did not catch them in the stolen vehicle.
