Prince George, B.C.- The application by the Chances Gaming Centre to move it’s operations to the Treasure Cove Casino site in Prince George, could be before Prince George City Council before the end of the month.
Grant Bain of Development Services says the earliest it could be on the agenda for first and second reading, would be the 11th of August. “Nothing has been scheduled yet” says Bain.
If it makes it to the August 11th agenda, then a public hearing would most likely take place on the 25th of this month.
With the application to make the move just filed a week ago, it would seem this item is moving rapidly through the system. “It is moving quickly” says Bain, but that is no indication it is moving any faster than any other application as Bain says each application is different.
There are some who are questioning the timing, asking if there would be enough time to properly gauge public opinion or conduct a traffic analysis.
There will have to be a public hearing as the Treasure Cove site has specific zoning which sets out the number of slot machines. Moving the Chances Gaming Centre to the Treasure Cove would add another 100 slots to the casino site.
Owner John Major has said he envisions a small, “cozy” bingo hall, but has not specified just how many seats that would mean. Majors is applying for a change saying bingo playing has dropped 20%-25% since he moved into the new building. He says there are several contributing factors,   including, new no-smoking regulations, the size of the building, distance from the caller and noise from the slots.
As for the existing Chances, that site is zoned C1, which allows for a variety of uses, including retail and office development.

It seems that anything Mr Major wants, gets fast tracked....
I have no doubt, NONE, that he will get all his wishes granted...
I would like to see his licence revoked to tell the truth!
I don't see where Mr. Major is being untruthful, and why would you revoke his licence (if that is what it is) if he tells the truth??

As for fast tracking, it would be nice change from what usually happens. Maybe Baines is kicking some butt in the office??
I for one am very happy that the chances bingo hall is leaving downtown. I feel that is one big problem w/ this town, nothing is centralized - gaming ctrs/casinos spread out all over hells 1/2 acre, nice hotels across the street from bad hotels, nice restaurants across the street from gross places i.e. the Achillion across from the Croft, what is that? It's just a big mixture with what looks like zero planning. I agree w/ Yama, thank goodness this isn't going to take years. PG is notorious for taking FOREVER to make a decision. It drives me crazy! I suppose part of that is waiting for funding...as we are ignored up here by our Prov Gov't.
Never said he was being untruthful...
though like some politicians he may not be telling us all...
if they pulled his licence then it the gaming center/bingo hall would shut down....
I know...not good for all the money that is poured in to PG...
but good for families with gambling/bingo addicts.
They cutsie little catch phrase "know your limit and play within it" must make them feel good but if these people knew the limit the cutsie catch phrases wouldn't be needed...
Had my rant..
I know nothing is going to change.
so all have a good day...
If addiction is the main concern and just cause to shut it down, then let's get rid of all pubs, bars, liquor stores, cigarette sales and everything else in this world that has the potential of becoming addictive.

Wouldn't break my heart - but just isn't realistic. Like BCRacer said, it's never going to close, so if you don't like it, don't go.

I remember people complaining about it being located in the downtown in the first place, now there are complaints that an application to move out of the downtown appears to be moving quickly and that an already existing liscence (not a new one - but one that is already in place!)is being moved.

Just goes to show... no one is ever happy.
Just goes to show... not everyone is a sheep.
Things need to be questioned or these people will think they can get away with whatever they like.
Right you are, lostfaith, always question authority, unless you work for me!
But seriously, big business and governments have always tried (and succeeded) to keep many of their manouvres quiet, lest the unwashed rabble catch wind of their nefarious deeds and question; 'why?' The environment would be in a lot worse condition than it already is if all people were afraid to speak up and ask why.
metalman.
There is more to this than meets the eye. What about the 80 plus charitable organizations who get funding from the bingo hall. What happens when Mr. Majors discovers that bingo players don't want to or can't get to the casino. Is he going to want to move just the bingo back to it's old location. Is this just another way for big bad John to get more slots at the casino. At one time the Knights of Columbus tried to get bingos at their hall on Damnio but discovered that people didn't want to travel there. To tell you the truth I think the casino costs us more than what the cities gets to cope with gambling addictions the B&Es that occur ect.
Stop blaming the casino's for gambling addictions. If you do that lets talk about the pubs, bars, liquor stores, keno, lottery, raffle tickets, fast food resturants, gas stations (damn enablers sell smokes), shopping malls, Costco, Adult products stores, Shoe stores, credit card comapanies, chocolate stores etc, etc. Stop blaming and start putting responsibility on the person with the gosh darn addiction.
"Owner John Major has said he envisions a small, “cozy” bingo hall, but has not specified just how many seats that would mean." Small and cozy, lets see when people come to play bingo and find it full, will they play slots instead? Maybe thats the plan, after all there is more money in slots.
Ya, I know a fellow that won $14,000 last week on the slots!
