Prince George, B.C. -The City of Prince George, the PGX, Prince George Transit, and St Vincent de Paul are combining forces for a mid summer food drive in conjunction with the biggest event of the summer in Prince George.
The PGX (taking place Aug 7-10th) is celebrating its 96th year and has been named the “Provincial Fair” for 2008 by the Minister of Agriculture and Lands. The City of Prince George and PG Transit are offering local residents the opportunity to attend the PGX through free public transit with the donation of a non-perishable food item.
The promotion, titled ‘Food for Fares’ is simple. All residents have to do is give their friendly bus driver a non perishable food item when boarding the bus, and they will be able to ride anywhere within the Prince George Transit system free of charge during the four days of the PGX!
“The ‘Food for Fares’ program is a great way to give back to the community while helping to promote public transit objectives at the same time. This is a great way to explore the local transit system and attend the PGX without having to deal with the traffic or parking,” says Aidan Kelly, Transit Analyst with the City.
“It’s perfect timing for St Vincent de Paul as summer tends to be a slower time of year for donations. They could really use the assistance and we are glad to partner with these local organizations on this great initiative,” continues Kelly.
The City of Prince George and PG Transit will also be on site the four days of the PGX taking additional food donations and promoting new transit services which take effect at the end of the month. They will have a display with a new transit bus set up just inside the main entrance of the exhibition grounds.
The exhibition grounds are directly served by the route #5 and #55, with many other major routes passing by in the close vicinity of the PGX. For full routing information visit www.busonline.ca or call 250-563-0011. Transit is in operation all four days of this year’s PGX.
