Prince George, B.C. – R.C.M.P increased their traffic services this weekend to increase awareness and road safety.

While there were reports of erratic, aggressive and impaired driving which are characteristic for a long weekend, there were no fatal motor vehicle collisions and no serious injury collisions in Prince George.

R.C.M.P also report although a number of speeding tickets were issued, speeds were down on the highways.

The table below outlines charges made:

It puzzles me why so many people continue to drive their vehicles too fast, and how many people continue to drive while they may be impaired.
Slow down! frustrate a ticket issuer!
Save money on fuel too!

I would like to see the stats regarding the actual speeds these "speeders" are getting tickets for.
Most speedometers in todays vehicles are not all that accurate.
My pickup checked with a high quality GPS is travelling 9kmh slower than what the speedo says, my car is 11kmh slower than the speedo. In fact every vehicle I have checked with my GPS has been wrong anywhere from 5 - 15 kmh.
Highway speed limits need to be raised. Period.
Not a bad $ take for just one weekend !! Our local tax collectors have done quite well...I wonder how many stolen vehicles they found during the same time period?? Or how many B & E's they solved??

It's too bad that the RCMP couldn't post a stat on how many lives they actually saved on the roads this long weekend.

...or maybe they wouldn't want to. It might just verify that their duties on the road are a glorified tax collection.
So, lostfaith, if what you say about speeometer inaccuracy is indeed the case for a variety of vehicles, then the speeders 'think' they are going a lot faster than they really are. That to me is disturbing, that some folks are intentionally travelling well above the limit. The cops generally give you a bit of latitude, if you are only say 10 km/h over the posted limit, they usually let you keep driving, I have had police give me a warning many times by flashing their red and blues momentarily, and they usually give a sort of hand signal too (not the Trudeau salute!)

In my pickup and it being out by 9kmh I travel at 115kmh according to my speedo and never get bothered.
Lostfaith your GPS is probably not as accurate as the speedo. Your GPS will be anywhere from nine to 30 feet out, even with a good signal. That type of inaccuracy also applies to speed and altitude readings. Altitude is the most inaccurate. The speedo though could also be out because the vehicle might not have the stock sized tires that the speedo is calibrated to.
Yes nothing is 100% accurate when measuring speed, however GPS tracks used as evidence in court have won many speeding ticket cases.
