Valemount, B.C.-  RCMP are  continuing the search for the pilot of an ultra light plane that  crashed and sank in  Moose Lake.

Yesterday, Valemount RCMP received a call that at approximately 12:24 pm, a small Ultralite plane with one occupant crashed into Moose Lake in Mount Robson Provincial Park.

A passer by observed the air craft flying east bound approximately 200 feet above the water. The aircraft suddenly went into a downward spiral, crashing into the lake approximately 200 meters from shore. Moments later the aircraft sank.

Valemount RCMP attended the scene immediately and found no trace of the aircraft. Search and Rescue and Jasper National Parks Warden Services were called out to search the water for the pilot. All efforts were unsuccessful in locating the pilot.

Today, RCMP divers began the task of searching under water for the pilot and plane wreckage. The depth  of the lake at the crash site is unknown, however it could be as deep as 250 feet.
