Prince George, B.C. – The fire that occurred this morning on Springhill Road has caused complete loss to the structure.

Melanie Perrin, Fire Services Coordinator for the Regional District is hopeful the owners have insurance, “I couldn’t imagine someone taking the chance of not getting insurance, it is just not worth losing absolutely everything in your life.”

Perrin reported some of the bushes were on fire in front of the structure, however everything is extinguished now. The Regional District of Fraser Fort George is just on “mop up phase.”.

The cause of the fire is still unknown, an investigation will follow.

I heard the home owner on the radio today ranting about the fire department not arriving for 40 minutes. Why do us RD dwellers pay for fire protection if we arent getting any! Even I know once a fire has been burning for 40 minutes, that the house is a complete loss. I guess that's why we pay more insurance than those in the city. my 2 cents
As a volunteer fire fighter for 23 years all the volunteer fire departments that protect most of Canada are always looking for people to join their teams get the training and protect their neighbors. There was many people at the fire that if they wanted to our cared enough could join the fire departments that protect their homes and families this long delay would not have happened. All the fire departments not just in PG but all over Canada need more people to get the training and become part of the teams and protect all Areas of Canada. These consist of 84,314 Volunteer Fire fighters and 23.694 Full Time Fire fighters. The Volunteers make up 3,184 Fire Departments with 95 full time Fire Department's and 213 composite Fire Departments. This brakes down to 91% of Canada is protected by Volunteers, These people are from all walks of live from House wife's to Doctors so if you think that you may not be able to help you need to go to your locale Fire Station on a training night and get to know the people and join their team because we need people or your homes may not be protected in the future.
