Prince George, B.C.-  Registration  for the new school year starts today with  registration for distance education.  School District 57  Superintendent Brian Pepper says  the District is expecting to welcome  14 thousand students.  That's  a drop of  about 500 students.

Pepper  says there are several reasons  for the reduction in numbers, people having smaller families,  an aging demographic, and of course the changes as people head  to new  places to find work.

Eyes are on Mackenzie as that community faces challenges brought on by the closure of several mills.  "We are taking  a wait and see attitude" says Pepper "We have taken the  position that it is business as usual in Mackenzie and we will be going ahead with all the usual programs."

Classes resume on September 3rd, but Pepper says new residents are  encouraged to  contact their schools one week from today.

280 jobs lost at the gone plywood plant. As an example. How many spouses, kids, houses, and stuff are related to that are gonna be history in this town? Still the mayors sign saying 81,000 people remain at 16 & 97. Etched in stone but still on wood.
