Condolences to the family.

PAY ATTENTION PEOPLE STOP KILLING ONE ANOTHER
the driver of the minivan should never be allowed to drive any kind of moterized vechile again as well as being automatically charged with mansluaghter and sentenced forthwith. Who needs a trial a person died because of someones carelessness.
Funny, a couple weeks ago we were on our motorcycle, same stretch of road, same dam road crossing. A minivan (or something similar) was sorely tempted NOT to stop at the stop sign to cross the hiway, but saw us at the last possible second, just before we started evasive action. Yup, close call. Yup, evasive action would have been painful. People (idiots especially) run stop signs all the time. Why? Because they get away with it. The driver of the van should be charged with manslaughter. Failing to stop at a stop sign is a deliberate act of reckless endangerment. But NOT, they will get away with it I am sure. They will pay a fine for "failing to stop", and the woman, well, she paid with her life FOR THEIR STUPID SELFISH MISTAKE.

Run a stop sign, What a thoughtless and cruel thing to do. And by the way, a stop sign has NOTHING
TO DO WITH MOTORCYCLE AWARENESS..... STOP SIGNS ARE FOR EVERYONE.....
First, my condolences to the lady's family.
She probably had no chance to avoid someone cruising through the intersection. As a long time rider, I have seen too many situations that are attributable to driver carelessness, left turns in front of an oncoming rider are a common one, as are lane changers. They just aren't looking for motorcyclists when they come to an intersection, or change lanes.
A person who rides must be looking around at all times when on the road, plus anticipating what the other road users (might) do. Never ride in the blind spot, always assume the other vehicles on the road do not see you. So many times I could swear the opposing driver was looking me right in the eye as they turn left in front of me, they just are not looking for bikes. Tragic result of someone not paying attention.
metalman.
I observe a woman of about that age who rides a motorcycle and have always admired her for her "spunkiness". So, I, too, extend my sympathy to all who knew this woman.

The difficulty for the RCMP is witnesses. So much law is bound up in law that justice never does truly happen. It is tough on the RCMP.

The driver of the mini van; well, I wouldn't like to be that person.
I travel those roads onto Old Caribou every day and the stop signs could be improved. For example coming down Cummings one goes through many intersections with no stop sign on Cummings, then at Old Caribou there is a stop sign that is not very noticeable and can catch a person off guard. I have seen people blow that sign. Bigger signs that get into your face would be a great idea.

Motorcycles, face it when you get into an accident you will bet hurt, no ands ifs or buts about it.
When riding a motorcycle the best defence is to assume that everybody else is out to get you.
