The Charter Of Rights Does Not Give Posters The Right To Say Anything They Want

You will notice over the past few days that there have been a lot of postings that have been deleted. In one case the poster was suggesting a rumour as fact, in another we have had a multitude of comments from Carlos Coy whose e-mail address is Crackshackrecords, who has registered in many different forms trying to get around the ban.

We had at first asked Carlos to clean up his act, when that failed we pulled his privileges to comment but he has been returning to the site with a number of different names.

Carlos suggested that we are taking away his right of free speech under the charter and he was taking the matter to a Vancouver lawyer. Please feel free to act on the matter. He was banned because of libelous comments and profane language and we simply will not tolerate either.

Positing comments on this site is a privilege , it is not your god given right to hide behind a factious name and spew venom at people and issues that you wish to slag, given the fact that some posters know the information being put forth is absolutely false, misleading and indeed down right out of taste.

If you don’t like the way that Opinion250 takes the position with respect to conduct, start your own site, and by the way have the guts and conviction to say who you are and stand before your peers with your comments. Hiding behind a curtain of secrecy does little to enhance your own image.

We have in recent weeks had an increase of this kind of libelous comments that we will not tolerate. If you like to comment on news and events, for God’s sake show some common sense or we will remove the right to comment from all stories and that would be a shame given that we have over 3400 people who make comments and less than 12 who create the problems.

I have been appalled at the kind of comments that having been posted on this site dealing with a host of items.  If this practice continues we will continue to identify those who are making these comments.

Comments

I am sure there were numerous posters that were every bit as upset with this persons comments as you were Ben...
put me at the top of that list.....

and that from a fellow who can be very opinionated and at time provocative.

Have a good day all..
I must admit even myself have been moderated once, not due to profanity but due to a potentially libelous comment. Since then I have learned how to more eloquently say what I need to get across without offending ( sort of like a politician ). Sorry couldn't resist that last part.

Ben thanks for Opinion 250 !
If you have visited other public internet forums, you will find these kinds of posters are everywhere.

Most of the time, they're just posting to get a reaction from people. It doesn't make it right, but this is part of the motivation for some of their comments. They want to rile you up. It's amusing to them. The more reaction they get, the more they like it.

Thanks Opinion250 for providing the forum for people to comment. The downside of providing such a forum is that you have to patrol it constantly to get rid of the idiots.
If these people keep getting kicked off can't you just block their ISP number? Then they can't keep getting new names?
Going live on Sept 22nd will ease up tensions on here i think!
The ISP number or IP number as it is known, changes from time to time for most people on the internet, so you can't really block that IP and be for sure that person is the right person.
I wrongly posted a rumour the other day that was passed on to me by a very reliable person that is not known to be a gossip or story teller of any kind whatsoever.
My appologies for doing so.

Maybe Opinion 250 should require posters to submit their verified and notarized IQs before posting anything on this website. That oughta thin the herd.
Is it me or is o250 silent on the whole pg police chief saga??
I heard a rumor that the price of gas is going to go down in B.C. Well, it's a fact in the U.S. Gas has dropped 17 to 45 cents per US gallon in the last month. It has even dropped to 121.9 p/l in Ontario. We in B.c. are robbed yet again.
