Quesnel, B.C. - There are 6 projects in the Quesnel region that have been given a share of nearly $900 thousand dollars in funding through the Western Economic Diversification Fund.
Cariboo Building Systems Limited – Quesnel
  • *Repayable funding of $70,150 for Cariboo Building Systems Limited to purchase and install robotic truss manufacturing equipment for use in the housing and construction industries.
    • This project will increase the quality of the company's products, and significantly reduce the cost of manufacturing time. It is expected the new equipment will create two-to-three new employment opportunities, and help the company expand its role as an educational facility in partnership with the College of New Caledonia.
City of Quesnel
  • Funding of $250,000 to the City of Quesnel to assist in planning the proposed Cariboo Culture, Heritage and Visitor Centre.
  • The project will include the development of physical building and exhibit plans, an environmental assessment and a fund-raising/communications plan.
University of Northern British Columbia – Quesnel
Two projects:
  1. Funding of $47,450 for the UNBC to conduct collaborative research at its Quesnel River Research Centre. The project aims to develop and test non-timber forest products inventory methodology.
  2. Funding of $292,300 for UNBC, under its Continuing Studies Program, to offer five-core business courses at its Quesnel campus.
This program, entitled the "Aboriginal and Small Business Leadership Program," is designed for aboriginals and non-aboriginals who may not have the formal education to meet university entrance requirements. The credits acquired through this program will be fully transferable to the university’s academic programming

Likely Community Forest and Cedar Point Class "C" Provincial Park- Quesnel
  • Funding of $80,000 for the Likely Community Forest and Cedar Point Class "C" Provincial Park Board to expand the Cedar City Museum and Visitor Reception Centre. Funding will help expand the current building by 560 sq.ft. The larger Visitor Information Centre will include a 252 sq.ft. theatre and increased the archives/storage area.
District of Wells
  • Funding of $120,000 for the District of Wells to increase tourism by upgrading and marketing existing recreational trails in the area. The existing historic trails have inconsistent route markings and are underutilized. Upgrades will make the trails available for year-round activities, such as mountain biking, hiking and cross-country skiing, and enable the region to be marketed as an adventure destination for all seasons.
  • As a result, the upgraded trails will host a number of events, including: The Tinman Triathlon, the 7-Summit Challenge, the Gourmet Ski trek, the Barkerville Rush Relay and the Cariboo Jack Ski Trek.

6 funded projects for the Quesnel region, eh? PG? Hmmm? Patience is a virtue. We got that here and we got the time to wait for our turn. Besides. We have our bingo halls to keep us warm.
In Wells the biggest buck that get dropped there is from the quads and snowmobile people.

Seems like there is always money to make trails for the few hardy souls that have that kind of endurance. Odd that there is no money for trails for the ordinary people that are always outdoors, and spend a lot of money while they are at it as well!

I find it strange there's no money to get more doctors up here.
