City's Top Businesses Honoured

The Prince George Chamber of Commerce has handed out its Business Excellence Awards for 2005.

Chamber Executive Director Sherry Sethen says the awards recognize companies, organizations, and individuals for outstanding business achievement in categories covering 12 areas of business.

The winners were announced during a gala banquet at the Ramada Saturday evening.

They are as follows:

1.  Newsmaker of the Year -- UNBC Northern Medical Program

2.  Community Booster (Business) -- Trend Setter's Hair Studio & Day Spa

3.  Community Booster (Non Profit) -- Highway 97 Adopt-A-Basket

4.  Customer Service Award -- J&A Stereo

5.  The Green Award -- David Douglas Botanical Garden Society

6.  Home-Based Business of the Year  -- Indigo Ink Graphic Design

7.  Retailer of the Year -- McInnis Lighting

8.  Manufacturer of the Year -- Vanway Cabinets Ltd.

9.  Technology of the Year -- Terra Cognita Software Systems, Inc.

10.  Tourism Excellence -- Prince George Airport Authority

11.  Corporate Citizen of the Year -- Hubbell Designer Goldsmiths

12.  Business Persons of the Year -- Bruce Sutherland and Gerry Bergeron

The nomination deadline was back in June, with the finalists being announced on September 21st.

Next up for the Chamber is a luncheon on Wednesday at the Ramada with provincial beetle boss Bob Clark.
