Prince George, B.C. - The Spruce Kings will be allowed to offer beer and wine  during 24 games of their season.

Although the request has passed, Concilor Sherry Sethen was disappointed it has come to this.  "I really don't think its necessary"  she told her Council colleagues.

She was the only Councillor to oppose the request.

I knew this would happen....as has all the other requests to seel alcohol ...will be nice to see others on council..and Kinsley glad you aren't running again...
Nothing matter with a beer at the game. Next thing people will be complaining about people having a beer or two on the highway home! Bunch of busy bodies!

Might as well start serving beer at the summer ball tournaments as well. Why stop at amateur hockey? I saw huge a lot of people at the soccer fields this summer, how about a cart than can travel up and down the sidelines.
Why stop at the soccer field? There is the pool, and also, lets not forget about sports days at the elementary schools....hot June days...nice cool beer...doesn't that sound great? Lets just go to the game and not have to worry about being run over in the parking lot by a drunk. We have enough to worry about getting to our vehicles because as you know, the Coliseum is downtown...and that alone is scary.
Absolutely ridiculous! Thank you Sherry Sethen for opposing such a stupid measure. If you can't go to a hockey game for 2 hours without having a beer, then you have a drinking problem.

Mind you, with that gong show on ice known as the Spruce Kings, maybe its the only way to actually sit through an entire game.
Bottom line, this is all about people not wanting alcohol around kids. Mmmmmmmm....I guess next time I'm at Moxies or Earls, or Boston Pizza I better not have a pint as there may be other people's kids around. How rediculous. To all those opposed to having a beer at a hockey game, I guess we better outlaw smoking outside the facility as well. Kids might see it. After all, hiding the smokes at stores will deter them from smoking. ha ha. what a joke. Why not spend some time educating kids on alcohol and it's effects rather than pretending it doesn't exist around them.

How 'bout the other end of the spectrum.....some people don't want to go to a hockey game if people are drinking around them. How 'bout the guy with no kids ( me and many others ) who hate the kids running around jumping off the bleachers in front of them and doing what ever the hell they want. Guess we better ban kids from the games if they can't sit still. No. Why do that, kids love going to hockey games and they have every right to be there as I have a right to endulge in a bevy at a hockey game now. At least some of my money is going back to the team. Don't think any of that cash from your pack of smokes is.

Ok, go ahead and rip ol' G-LO apart now. I'm a big boy, I can take it.
Lets go over a couple of things here kids.

1. Spruce Kings have not agreed to to over-serve people at thier games turning them all into drunken violence-seeking thugs and drunk drivers. They are offering a choice to have or not to have a tasty, totally legal adult beverage.
Just because all of you or your loved ones can't stop after 1 or 2 drinks (Howard B Stern - that is a drinking problem...great name by the way) does not mean that the rest of us mature adults should have to go without a drink.

2.RUEZ: Can you seriously not see the differnce between a BCHL team and a bunch of kids playing youth soccer at the fields? pull your head out of your ass...and have you ever been to a ball tourny where beer isnt being sold?

If all of you can honestly tell me...and prove to me...that you have never gotten behind the wheel after a drink, I'd listen to your sad ramblings. Im betting you can't.

Im wasting time at work , you all take this seriously. How sad is that??

have fun at church on sunday!!!

(Gary Long wants to babysit your stinkin loud ass kids)

Careful, ladies, common sense doesn't fly on this site.

Also, drunks are usually much more preferable to someones over-indulged sprog.
(puts on flame-proof suit)
Ah, the ol' 94X Morning Zoo chimes in.

This is not only about kids, I'm not sure where G-Lo gets this assertion from. Also, Docc makes the invalid point that we shouldn't be able to say anything if we've 'never gotten behind the wheel after a drink'. Say what?

Anyway, we have all been to events where a couple of drunk idiots have spoiled things. This is a town that doesn't handle its alcohol all that well. Head downtown on just about any night for illustrations of this.

If it's about having a beer at a game, I don't have a problem with that... but why do the idiots who have 13 beers have to stand out so much? And why does there have to be so many of them?
There are enough alcoholic venues without serving beer at sports events. This town is inundated with alcohol. We've got a pub/cold beer store on every corner and that's not enough, we've got to serve it at sporting events. We've got enough drunks on the highways and roadways, we don't need to be sanctioning any more.
What's going to stop the handful of idiots from drinking in the parking lot or even smuggling booze into the games? It's these people who ruin it for the ones who enjoy having a drink or two and socializing with friends at games.

Alcohol isn't going to hurt anyone, it's the idiots that aren't responsible enough that will hurt someone.

If you don't like being exposed to people having a good time drinking a beer, stay home in your "perfect world".
How have the Spruce Kings organization been handling those who come to the games drunk (and the some that get drunk there with their own smuggled booze)? How is this going to be any different?

An increase in drinking venues shouldn't increase drunk drivers unless it magically increases the number of those who lead an irresponsible life.

Generalizing a population of a city to one who "doesn't handle its alcohol all that well" is a joke and just another stab at PG. It's no different here than anywhere else I've been.

Ohhhhh wow. Rounder is my new best friend and maybe co-host. My thoughts exactly. Great post.

The only other thing I want to add is why does everyone always assume that this kind of thing ( people being drunk at a hockey game or the fact that liquor is everywhere in this town ) why does everyone always assume that it's just PG. Not a chance. Sorry folks, head to kamloops, Kelowna, Nanaimo ( cities of similar size ) you'll find just as many liquor outlets and just as many folk wanting to purchase it so that argument is getting really old. Keep trying though.

And Mr.PG......"The Morning Zoo"????? Obviously not a listener. You should try it though, you may learn something about your town from a couple of yahoos and the real workers ( our listeners ) of this town. Cheers gang.
'Alcohol isn't going to hurt anyone, it's the idiots that aren't responsible enough that will hurt someone.'

An idiot fuelled by alcohol is more dangerous than an idiot without.

As for my comments on PG, I stand by them. I've lived here 30 years and travelled around this great province and country of ours. We have problems in this town. Living in a state of denial won't fix 'em.

And G-Lo... buddy. Wrong again... I am a listener -- 'The Morning Zoo' comment was a lighthearted jab. I listen to plenty of yahoos call into the X every day, and I gotta say, listening to the 'rubbie round-up' (or however it's spelled) every Friday and hearing a good number of callers saying they're getting drunk this weekend doesn't help PG's image.
MrPG. I can respect your opinion on the matter. I'll always give you that, and I'm glad you tune in from time to time. However, just because some people say they're getting drunk on the weekend doesn't automatically mean they're gonna go out and paint the town black, drive drunk, get in a bar fight or all of the above. A lot of people are just normal working class "joes" who work hard all week and want to come home and tie one on Friday night. You can't say that everyone that drinks on the weekend is trouble. Even if that's not what you're intending, it seems that's what you're implying.

I do enjoy a good debate however, and I will say that most of your comments make more sense than some posters on this site.

That being said, I totally disagree with you on your PG comments but I guess we'll have to agree to disagree on that one. Cheers.
