NDP Have Lead Over Liberals in Poll

By Editorial Cartoon

Friday, August 29, 2008 10:05 AM

For the first time in years the New Democrats in B.C. have surpassed the Liberals in a poll.

The survey may not be statistically significant as the room for error is plus or minus 3.5, but none the less,  of the people surveyed,  if there were an election tomorrow in B.C. 41 per cent  said they would vote for the NDP.  The Liberals would get 38 % and the  Green Party  is third with 14%.

God Help Us
We're screwed either way. The Liberals have done their best to lose the next election and the NDP will lose the one after that.
Gordo must think that Carol James is a patient in one of our hospitals. He has got to go!
We are between a rock and a hard place. We are damned if we do and damned if we dont. The Liberals had a chance to give us good Government and ensure their re-election, however they chose to make a sorry mess of the situation,.

In order to teach the Liberals a lesson we will end up with the NDP in power. As much as I hate to admit it, perhaps the short term (one term) election of the NDP will be enough to smarten up the rest of the politicians and voters in this :Province.

I dont beleive that we can any longer be black mailed by the Liberals that if we dont vote for them we will end up with the NDP in power. This attitude has made the Liberals almost im;possible to live with.

Let the chips fall where they may, and may the Devil take the hindmost
too funny

I sure dont want the NDP in power but it would almost be worth it to see the socialists scratch their heads in confusion when they realize that the Liberals ARENT responsible for higher fuel and food prices, contrary to what some people of these people believe.
Ha ha!! Love the cartoon!
And I agree with you Palopu..the biggest mistake we could make is thinking we don't have any choice but to support the Campbell Liberals.
That's exactly what they are banking on!
Under Gordon Campbell, they have gotten progressively more arrogant over 2 terms, and Gordo has bought party loyalty with a couple of fat raises.
Nothing stupid about that clown!
So what the hell are they going to do to us in a 3rd term...assuming they win?
I think the Liberals could survive over the long term, but not with Campbell driving the bunny bus!
A tough call, and I guess people will just have to vote for what they can live with for another 4 years!
Given their history, the NDP scares the hell out of me,but hey,you never know.
Maybe they have figured out why they are always a bridesmaid and rarely a bride?
Obviously by the poll,SOMEBODY thinks they are worth a try and it will be an interesting election!
And the Liberals can thank Gordo for that!
It goes to show how Gordo feels about the rest of British Columbians - the working class can eat tainted sandwich meat while his elite (with their big pay raises in July) will eat caviar.
If things are as bad in B.C. as the NDP propaganda wants us to believe - what a perfect time to hand it over to the NDP...it happened twice already and after a short time things REALLY started to nosedive!

It will happen again - it is totally predictable.

The devil is in charge of the Voter Amnesia Department, obviously!

Sorry but as bad as the NDP has been in the past, the Liberals don't deserve to keep floating along without consequence. This is a perfect opportunity for the NDP to show that they have smartened up, and an excellent opportunity to show the Liberals we aren't happy with them.
"Given their history, the NDP scares the hell out of me,but hey,you never know."

A leopard can not change its spots. Let the games begin, ending with "We told you so!"
How insightful diplomat. If that were true that a leopard can not change it's spots then why do we continually change governments in Canada? Why would anyone ever vote for the Federal Liberals again if they are just going to be the same crooks they were last time?
Born in BC wrote, "I sure dont want the NDP in power but it would almost be worth it to see the socialists scratch their heads in confusion when they realize that the Liberals ARENT responsible for higher fuel and food prices, contrary to what some people of these people believe."
But when the Asian meltdown happened in the 90's and BC economy went south, it is the NDP's fault. Glen Clark tried to do something for the BC economy. he tried to develop some industry in the province rather than just having us being hewers of wood and drawer of oil, gas and coal. The present gov’t is doing nothing to help this province. We have outsourced our accounting for BC Hydro. Apparently Campbell doesn’t think we have any BC accounting firms that can do the job. Likewise for computer programmers. The Ministry of Education went to Ontario to get a computer program for the school system in the province. We are exporting raw logs rather than processing them here in BC. Russia refuses to export raw logs to China and they have a thriving wood-working industry. Gordo and his cohorts in Ottawa (NAFTA and Softwood Lumber Deal) are causing our raw resources to be exported and we will have nothing left. We should stop exporting these and use them to develop industries in BC.
It's time to get rid of Campbell before its too late.
How insightful RUEZ. It is true that a leopard can not change its spots. It is also true that we keep changing parties in the hope that some leopard (party) will accomplish that impossible feat. In the meantime we still keep looking and hoping for even handed, respectful, wise, fiscally responsible and accountable government at both federal and provincial levels.

Has the basic platform and political agenda (the spots) of the NDP changed? Not a chance. The only thing that may be different now is the method with which the agenda will be implemented.

It's like the doctor approaching you from a slightly different angle and with a new pair of rubber gloves.

Yet, you are still going to get it in the end.

As Obama suggested in his acceptance speech, If you don't have anything to run run on, paint your opponent with negatives. This is what the BC Liberals and their supporters will try to do. When the BC NDP took over in the 90's, our economy was taking. Japan's economy crashing, Alberta was sending welfare recipients to BC with a one-way ticket and the federal gov't cut out transfer payments to BC. Tis is what the BC NDP had to work with and when they left office, they left a record surplus verified by the auditor general. Before we have our next election, a budget will be released in the spring, but we will have no idea how sound it is. We won't know that until the fall when we get the auditor general's report. This happened before the last election and it was pointed out to Campbell. He said that it would be a good idea to wait for the election until after the auditor general's report, but this just appears to be another of his lies.
I will vote NDP in the next BC election.
Liberals have failed to fight corruption in the province and they have failed to protect the workers from discrimination and abuse.

Shirley Bond in PG has taken the voters for granted, by not giving even appointment to people to discuss corruption and discimination under
her watch in publicly funded educational
institutions in PG. UNBC is just an example.

We need to put an end to the rule of old boys club.

By all means vote the NDP back in again. When ten percent of the population winds up on social assistance like last time, you deserve to pay for it. Me too. Unfortunately.
I read a report in the newspapers that said that now drug and mafia activities amount to $6 Billion of BC economy and another article saying 1/3 of economy. BC is now the drug center of North America and Canada. What the Liberals have done in BC that we are in this mess?

The next government has a challenge to deal with these illegal activities and to
clean the system and replace it with healthy activities. To run on a clean ticket. Liberals have failed
to deal with corruption in the free market and in public institutions under their watch.

Looks like Gordo's gas tax grab, MLAs 28% wage increase and the governments huge increase for deputy ministers isn't going unoticed
Who are going to run in PG for federal election? Although Dick Haris has a better public relation personel - than say Shirley Bond - but I am disappointed by lack of action by Dick Haris in dealing with the ongoing UNBC issues that has contributed to the resignation of a VP in UNBC. Dick is one of the only oppositions to Liberals in PG.

He has avoided dealing with problems in UNBC by making them a provincial issue, and not federal issue. I am sorry to see Dick acting passively and not using his weight to force the university to end its discriminatory acts and resolve the issues before they turn into litigation against UNBC. Last election, I had a better impression of him.

When PG people vote someone as MP or MLA, then that person has a responsibility to
deal with "ALL THE PROBLEMS" that affect the PG city and community. If the MP/MLA fails to stand up, then the people will give the power (to represent them) to another person in the next election, a person who can stand up for people, for the average Joe.

I will watch the events over the coming weeks regarding UNBC and let you know if he acts before the election.

I also watch the liberals (Sh. Bond) and potential NDP candidate (D. Poff), to see if they contribute anything positive (or negative) and report back.
If Rustad gets in again, I'll lose a little more of my faith in humanity!
