Saving KGV Back Before Council

Prince George City Council will take another look at what to do with King George V school.

The heritage reports say the building is worthy of saving, that it bears significant value in the development of Prince George and the entire Crescents Community and should be “preserved and adapted to a modern use” instead of preserving it “behind glass in bits and pieces in various museum –like locations throughout the City.”

The big problem is cost.

School District 57 is ready to go ahead with the building of a new Duchess Park school, and does not have the money to save King George V in the process.

The School District is on record as saying rehabilitation costs are usually much higher than those laid out by consultants, and there just isn’t any funding.

In my opinion we can use 2.3 Million dollars in many better ways than trying to restore an old building that is falling apart. Quit beating this dead horse and tear it down.
We as a city do not have to re-invent the wheel. Check out this site for the process that took place for another important landmark that has become an anchor for this City.
