Prince George, B.C. – There is still no sign of the Nechako Treatment Centre reopening the doors of its residential program.

The Centre is the only residential addictions treatment program under the wing of Northern Health, it stopped taking clients in July.

When it shut down July 4th, the Regional Director of Addiction Services , Jim Campbell, said the closure was primarily for the summer. The reason for the shutdown was said to be a staff shortage.

Now, Northern Health spokesperson, Sonja Kruger, says there is still no success in recruiting new staff “Interviews have been done with two people, one was not qualified and the other took a job elsewhere.”

Kruger says in the meantime, those in need of the kinds of services provided through this residential program are having to go to other communities. The Nechako residential program treated 10 adults at a time for 30 days.

When is it likely the centre will re-open? Kruger isn’t able to be precise “It is the hope that the Centre will re-open soon.” Does that mean weeks or months?  “There are no projections on how long that might be" says Kruger, " but the Centre is hoping it won’t be months.”

The non residential withdrawal unit and the Nechako Youth unit remain open.

"when is it likely to re-open"?

Answer: "when a family member of some high RANKing NHA official needs to get into detox, and the official discovers that the facility is closed, even to his/her family.
Or is there an inside track for NHA bureaucrats and their families, like there is for avoiding waiting lists?
Me, cynical? yep.
metalman.
The Centre appears to have gone "downhill" under Northern Health. It used to take 28 clients for 30 days. Too many executives not enough workers.
