Northern Health Looks for Buyer for Gateway Seniors Complex

Prince George, B.C.- With the construction of the  Gateway Seniors development progressing, Northern Health is now looking for someone to buy the facility and run it.
The 175 unit comlex has a construction cost of $42 million and is slated to open in  the summer of 2009.
 
Western Industrial Contracting Ltd. of Prince George is building the new facility which will provide 94 new residential care beds for seniors who need around-the-clock nursing care. The facility will also feature 81 additional seniors housing units, 50 of which will provide assisted living services for seniors who can be mostly independent with specialized housing, meals and health supports. The remaining 31 units will be market rental units.
 
The new partner will own the facility and lease it back to Northern Health. This owner, or another partner, may also provide care and support services. This approach is consistent with the ownership and operation of other seniors care facilities across BC and Canada.
 
The call for proposals also includes the opportunity for the partner to expand the new Gateway facility when the city needs more residential care beds and/or assisted living units for seniors. Further expansion may also provide for the replacement of other aging seniors care buildings in Prince George.
 
The RFP is now posted on the BC Bid website (bcbid.ca). The RFP closes on October 29th.

Yes what a great system, instead of operating ourselves and doing it right, we will sell it off to one of the large American companies, who will make a tidy profit, and instead of the money going towards decent wages and patient care it goes to pay the stockholders.

Just because this is done in the rest of senior's facility management doesn't mean it is right. It is privatization at the expense of patient care.

BC just gave our Government administrators huge pay increase, to be the best they can be, and yet they care not to put into practice a system that sees us benefit from our investments and in theory their knowledge.
How about Mr. Major? He will have access to a potential live-in bingo hall customer base. Kinda captive also if he locks the doors and charges an exit fee too.
A project like that built on speculation? It ain't a plain old house ya know.
