Prince George, B.C. - The  Federal Government has announced $30.8 million dollars in joint funding for improvements to  Highway 97 between  the  Simon Fraser Bridge and  Sintich Road.

The highway improvement will involve creating four lanes along the  4.6-km stretch and is expected to be completed by fall 2009.

To the south, there  has also been an announcement of shared funding for an upgrade of highway 97 at the Hixon Bridge and  from Dale Lake Road to Dragon Lake Road in Quesnel.  Those two projects will mean a shared cost of $21.5 million dollars.

The projects will see  highway 97 widened to 4 lanes from Dale Lake Road  to Dragon Lake road,  and the replacement of the existing  bridge n Hixon with a  new four lane crossing.  Both projects are to be completed by the fall of 2009.

This initiatives  are part of a series of announcements taking place in B.C. The Government of Canada and the Province of B.C. will fund up to $231 million worth of National Highway System improvements in the province, under the Building Canada Plan.

When are they going to improve the railway underpasses?
Why? It's a City and Provincial highway thing. But it is nice for the Feds to contribute. We know well enough that Gordo's putting all our money into the Sea to Sky and Olympics and gives two S***s about the north.
The project cost is shared by the Province and the Federal Government, since it is a Highway it has absolutley nothing to do with the City.

With a Federal Election to be announced within a week, and the Provincial election due in May 2009 these projects will be in progress or nearing completion during the elections, which works out well for the politicians.
How many more kms will this add to the "Cariboo Con" that Gordo can crow about?
I'd swear I just caught a whiff of an Federal election!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IMO the Hixon bridge should be of the highest priority. That thing is downright scary with two trucks on it at the same time.
