Unemployment Rate Rises

Prince George, BC - The latest Statistics Canada labour force survey is out and the numbers for Prince George and the Cariboo are up.

The unemployment rate in PG for August is 8.7%, almost up 3% when comparing August of 2007 which was at 5.7%.

For the Cariboo, the jobless rate is 7.2% for this August, compared to last year's 5.7%.

In BC, the numbers show a slight decrease from July's 4.4%--it's now at 4.3%.

And Nationally, the rate remains steady at 6.1%.

I bet all they did was read the headlines every other day that said another mill closes it's doors.
Students going back to school? Or not going back to school and finding themselves on welfare? Seasonal jobs ending?
