Prince George, B.C. - The 2008 BC Seniors Games Host Committee announced today that it has achieved its volunteer requirements.

About 1250 people have signed up as BC Seniors Games Volunteers, 50 more than required. They will be seen around the city starting next week dressed in their distinctive white TELUS Volunteer t-shirts.

Host Committee Chair Les Waldie says “when we announced a few weeks ago that we needed more volunteers the registrations started coming in and they haven’t stopped since.   Prince George has always been known for its volunteer spirit and once again we have another demonstration of why this is such a special community. When help is needed, Prince George always responds. Our volunteers will help make this the best BC Seniors Games ever.”

The Host Committee also wants to ensure that people in Prince George know they are invited take part in the BC Seniors Games which begin next Wednesday, September 10 and conclude on Saturday, September 13.

“We have a number of special events in our program that are intended for both participants and the public” says Waldie.   “This is not an event for participants only; it’s a community event that everyone can enjoy. People can cheer on competitors at the various events being held around the city. They can attend the special BC Seniors Games exhibition hockey game between the Prince George Cougars and the Kamloops Blazers on Thursday evening and join in some fun at entertainment events on Thursday and Friday evenings. We want to ensure that people know they are invited to take part in the Games and that we have a variety of events and activities for people to enjoy.”
