Prince George, B.C.- Another announcement from the Federal Government. This time, $2.15 million for flood mitigation.
Specifically, the Federal Government says the shared funding (with the Province) will be used for two projects:
* $2 million to build the first phase of a complete flood protection system for the City of Prince George.
* $150,000 to complete the pre-construction design to protect the City of Prince George from flooding by the Nechako and Fraser Rivers.
Once again, the folks making the announcement didn’t get in touch with City Hall. City Manager Derek Bates says he has heard there has been an announcement, but the City had actually applied for eleven million dollars in flood mitigation projects, so he is waiting to see the actual documents before he can say for sure just what work the amount is supposed to cover.
Otttawa also failed to inform City Hall about the approval of funding for $3.5 million dollars worth of work to River Road.
To the west, the region of Terrace is also getting funding. That Region will get more than $4 million for a couple of projcts to shore up the banks of the Skeena River. Terrrace itself gets just over $2.5 million and the Regional District of Kitimat -Stikine will pick up $1.53 million.
