Prince George B.C.- “There is no excuse for not being ready for this election” that’s the word from Prince George- Peace River incumbent Jay Hill following the announcement this morning that Prime Minister Stephen Harper has called an election that will send us all to the polls October 14th.
Hill’s riding is considered a Tory strong hold,   and while the New Democrats have selected Betty Bekkering as their candidate, there has been no decision on who will run for the Liberals or the Green Party although Hilary Crowley did represent the Greens the last time around.
Hill says the other political parties should have been ready to go for an election at any time “A minority government could fall at any time, normally within 18 months.   We’ve been ready for 2 and a half years. We’ve been nominated and have our teams ready to go.”
As for the Cariboo-Prince George riding which has been represented by Conservative Dick Harris, there is still no word on who will represent the Liberals. The Liberal Riding Association President, David Wilbur, says some possible candidates are being approached, but there is nothing to announce at this point. The New Democrats have selected Bev Collins as their candidate. She has run in previous campaigns, but never for a main stream party. Again, there is no word on who will be on the ballot for the Green party.

In this upcoming election I will be voting for Jay Hill. The only complaint I have against Mr. Harper is in his last budget (I think), he spent too much money. You have to admit though, that his is not the only government in Canada which has spent too much money prior to an election.

I believe you cannot judge a government’s record unless they have had a chance to govern with a majority of the seats. I think Mr. Harper and his Conservatives will do a better job of governing Canada than Mr. Chretien, Mr. Martin and their Liberal party did during their terms in office.

To anyone considering voting for the Liberal party in this upcoming federal election, please read the following article from the Toronto Sun web site titled "218 Reasons Not To Vote For The Liberals". This article was written on Jan.22, 2006. The following is the link to this article:

Well Charles,

That article is a bit old (2006) how about looking at the conservatives background, this was taken from an article out of the National Post.. September 6th, 2008..

"In his last speech before stepping down as president of the Canadian Auto Workers, the country's largest private sector union, Buzz Hargrove said the Prime Minister has ignored pleas to help the auto industry financially for three years only to find money just days before an election call."

We might be fighting for a great economy, but we as canadians are also fighting to restore our rights..

I will be voting for democracy.... There needs to be a fair balance between employees and employers..These undemocratic governments have been working solely for corporations and partisan... It is time for a major labour movement in Canada..

Cut backs from the Harper government to allow corporations to police themselves..

VOTE FOR DEMOCRACY!!
""218 Reasons Not To Vote For The Liberals".

Thanks for the info. Just to let you know I am working on the outline for a book I am about to write with the title; "1001 reasons not to vote for the Conservatives."

Reason number #1: Brian Mulroney. #2: Stephen Harper. #3: Jay Hill.
Giving Harper a majority would be a huge mistake. Just remember one thing come October: Harper wanted Canada fully involved in Iraq... enough said.
Here we go again!
This kind of conduct will only lead to one thing, and that is the inability of ALL to comment on any election related story!

The rules on Opinion 250 are quite clear, NO BULLYING OF OTHER POSTERS.

The offensive posts have been pulled, and I am advising all to stick to the subject matter!

There is a rule amongst friends I thought.

No political discussion.

No religious discussion.
Let's remember what Jay Hill said during the debate on the bill to set those fixed dates:

"If a prime minister went against the spirit of this legislation and purely called an election because he or she felt the opportunity was ripe, that the situation for his or her particular political party was very advantageous to go to the polls, I suspect that person would quite likely be punished by the Canadian people in the subsequent election campaign."

That's a good reason to not vote for the Conservatives.
NO BULLYING OF OTHER POSTERS.

Excellent rule! No name calling. Fine with me! That's perfectly reasonable.

Cyber bullying 101....do unto others as you would have them do unto you....

Is that a liberal, pc, green or new democrat belief?
ALRIGHTY THEN....

How fair is it going to be for Hillary Crowley or another Green Party candidate in our riding when Mr. Harper is too afraid of the Green Party leader to let her participate in the upcoming debates?
Gee, some discussion board this turned out to be... Bad enough their news "reporting" is grade school quality but now they're censoring their readers? Wow!
