Prince George, B.C.- City Council will get an update on the development of the new RCMP detachment as staff provide a report and the first architectural concept drawings of the facility planned for 4th and Victoria. ( see previous story)
The Columbus Hotel and what to do about the burned out shell is also on the agenda for Council this evening.  (See Columbus Shell Has Got to Go)Councillors will be asked to accept the engineers report which says the remains of the building should be removed immediately as they pose a risk to safety.
The Columbus fire is one of the reasons for a notice of motion from Councilor Don Zurowski.   He wants to ask administration to see what lies within the City’s power to deal with the four sites in the downtown which have been hit by fire.
The downtown and shopping centre tenancy survey results for 2007 will be discussed. That report indicates there has been little change in the composition of downtown, but the vacancy rate is up slightly for the upper levels.

Also on this evening’s agenda, the final report for the Parks and green space plan. It puts forth more than 2 dozen recommendations including property acquisition along the rivers and the development of several neighbourhood parks, especially in the College Heights region.

Council will also be asked to consider borrowing $7 and a half million dollars to follow through with the  recommendations  from the Trails Task force report which was  presented to Council in June.

$7,500,000 bucks for trails. Must be nothing else to spend money on. Plus the cost of maintaining and patrolling these little roads.
"Talk" about the burned out shell? What is to talk about? How long to leave it there? Who is gonna pay to be rid of it? Sure am glad the city council does not debate the fate of every single pothole in this town. What a bunch of doofuses. Replace them all in November.
Maybe he BC Film Commission should be notified by our city hall, that if they wait a while PG can be a stand in for a bombed out Leningrad after the Nazi invasion. Just ignore Third Ave. Focus on the quality of the roads and burnt out buildings. They can use that ex-plywood plant too.
It's all good everyone. Us taxpayers will pay for everything. Don't worry we can all afford whatever city council decides to do. After all we voted them into office so that means once they get in there they are on their own and are not legally accountable to the taxpayer for any decisions they come up with for anything.
Life is great.

Thats what these money sucking politicians believe. It's time to tune them in to the facts of life don't you think?
Are you running for Council lost faith?
$75k for trails? Why not go up to the Hilton on the hill(jail) and grab a few guests give them chain saws and shovels and wheel barrows and go start building trails wherever they want them, when winter comes around they can go out and shovel them. easy peasy dudes
Seven and half million bucks?

Why don't we just tell our native community that there is a buch of oily fish at the other end of town, and they will give us a trail. ( That is so politically incorrect )

No, No, No. Say no to that. Get a little TD-8 (D3) Drop the blade and keep on pushing.
y'know, our city planners can't see the forest for the trees. With all the issues out there that are not being dealt with, now they have to build trails, and at what seems to be a tremendous cost.
I just don't get it.
metalman.
funny how burned buildings can sit there for two years and then 2 months before the election, they're asking what's in their power to deal with it? Don't they aleady know?
So, just who is the Trails Task Force who is recommending to council we borrow 7.5 Million? Council better say no, if they value their seats in the coming election. In my humble opinion. Chester
