I think David Emerson could have been a damn good man to have around in canadian politics.
I think he is honest and has no particular affiliation to any party, which is a rarity.
He just wanted to get the job done.
Unfortunately for him,he made some very bad choices that I think had much to do with wanting to settle the softwood lumber once and for all and, politics being what they are,he paid the price for that.
It is amazing how canadians will continually re-elect a complete no-mind time after time and yet crucify someone who is acually worth their wages.
Such is politics I guess.

Your on the money, Andy but dont forget that it was Emerson that made the choice to join the PC's. He may have closed the deal but with Harpers love of our southern neighbours it probably would have been resovled at great cost to the forest industry.
Cheers

Those that are worth their wages are those that won't follow the "old boys club".
They are the ones that never make it in politics.

You are both right...and while the softwood lumber agreement is far from perfect,I guess we have to live with it now.

Bridge, could you explain in any detail this love that Harper has for the U.S.A.?

One thing could be the fact our soldiers are dying in Afghanistan. We wouldn't be there in a combat role if not for Harper and Bush.

Right on Andyfreeze, I agree totally.

Lostfaith your comment is an out and out lie. Jean Chretien put us in Afghanistan as an invading force. It would do a lot of you some good to do a little research about our role in Afghanistan. We have never been there as peacekeepers. Since the day we set foot on Afghan soil we have been invaders and now occupiers.
The Liberal BS get's spread quite quickly in Canada. Dion would have us believe that we were only put there as peacekeepers and Harper somehow changed our role. It makes me sad that so many people will swallow that crap.

Mulroney, Harper, Bush and Mc Cain are of the same ideological breed. Some of the same people work for all 4. They develop election strategies to help them get elected. All use strategies that attack their opponents, they do not debate issues. They do not care what happens to the citizens, they only watch out for big business. In Canada we have NAFTA and the Softwood Lumber Accord. This ensures the US with a steady supply of raw resources from Canada at a cheap price. In BC we are exporting raw logs rather than working on the here. Many jobs are being lost as a result of this decision. David Emerson was there front and center helping out with this policy. The Liberals and Conservatives are selling us out.

I'll give you two guess's where most of those raw logs are going. And it's not a country in NAFTA. Swing and a miss astro.

It doesn't really matter where the logs are going. The fact they are going is the matter.
