No Changes Locally In October 14th Vote
By Ben Meisner
There is a very good chance that the people of BC will not have to have another beer and watch as eastern Canada decides who will govern the country in the upcoming federal election.
Just as in the past election, BC could again form the balance of power in Canada and that in itself gives this province some clout in the election.
The Block will continue to hammer away at any party be it either Liberal or Conservative that looks like it might make inroads in Quebec. It still is a mystery how a party which advocates the breaking up of Canada can continue to hold so much power in this country.
Can we expect a different campaign? Not likely.
The Conservatives will hammer hard at the Liberal Carbon tax, and Gordon Campbell’s Liberals in BC. We have a carbon tax and much will be said as to why we shouldn’t have such a tax in this country. That of course goes against the grain in BC.
Can we expect much to change on the federal scene in this province?
There will be a serious effort made to knock Hedy Fry off her perch, there will be some changes in the lower mainland and an all out effort by Sharon Smith, Mayor of Houston to knock off the existing NDP incumbent Nathan Cullen.
In this riding, Jay Hill faces little if any opposition. It will take a serious candidate to knock off Dick Harris even though he can be considered more vulnerable than Hill.
So don’t look for any major changes in the Federal scene from our neck of the woods, that action will come in the province of Quebec.
I’m Meisner and that’s one man’s opinion.
