Fire Destroys Skeena Hotel in Terrace

Terrace, B.C.- The Skeena Hotel in Terrace is no more.
 
This morning, around 4, the fire alarms started blaring, and the only three people in the building managed to make it out safely.
 
At daylight, heavy machinery was brought in to topple the structure. ( photo at right shows smoldering rubble, photo courtesy Opinion250 reader)
 
Firefighters remain on the scene this hour, dousing the pile of rubble with water.

I was staying at the Best Western about 100 yards from the fire. Everyone did get out safe they were at the Best Western having coffee this morning. Building was fully engulfed at about 6 am quite the seen
I will bet that the mess will be bulldozed and cleaned up before the Columbus hotel is....
Scary stuff all these fires...
Maybe it is time to update the sprinkler systems in all the hotels and motels?
Makes one think twice about where we stay...

This building has been up for sale for quite some time.

I guess now they don't need to worry about selling it.
You are right, BC racer, definitely consider where you stay, and look for the nearest exit to the outdoors from your room, look out the window, can you get out? can you jump to safety? is there a smoke detector? does it work?
