Vancouver  – Gordon Campbell is hiding from tough questions and accountability by cancelling the fall session of the Legislature, NDP Leader Carole James said today.

“Gordon Campbell’s government is arrogant and out-of-touch with British Columbians,” said James.  “The legislature is not his private club - it’s the place where his government is held accountable by the people of B.C.”

Earlier today, the Campbell government announced that it would break its promise to call the Legislature back to work in October. James said that with the economy slowing, the forest industry in crisis, and ongoing problems with patient care, the Campbell government is walking away from the needs of average people.

“It’s clear that Gordon Campbell just doesn’t get it,” said James.  “He is more worried about taking tough questions on issues like the massive pay-hike he gave his top executives and the gas tax that is hitting average families than he is about the issues British Columbians face everyday.”

James said that the New Democrats would use the fall session to bring forward legislation to establish a seniors’ advocate, raise the minimum wage, improve protections for farm workers and tighten up the conflict of interest rules

stfu.
Well Campbell and company will not show up, they are too busy spending the ir big pay increases we gave them with time off.
"Governments should be afraid of the people instead of people being afraid of government". Dictator Gordo is too arrogant to understand this. The sooner these thieves are gone the better and B.C. can once again be a place to be proud of instead of embarrassed.
I think I will not show up for work this fall and see if I still get paid.
Boy that James sure likes to waste peoples time and energy. Typical NDP, get everyone tied up in meetings so the elected MLA's haven't got time to make sure we get through the next couple years until the US economy recovers.

Oh, I forgot. The NDP doesn't believe Canada depends on a strong USA to keep our lavish economy rollng.
"stfu"

Rational debate, Campbell style!
Actually I wish the liberals would head back to the legislature. That is where they all are supposed to be in the fall, actually doing the business of the government. I didn't know I lived in a dictatorship, until this last term of the liberals.
Carole WHO, is that broad trying to represent the New Dumdum Party. They should re-elect a new leader before they do something like that.
Possible breach of our Charter rights by not returning in October. Serious issues do need to be debated and addressed. We have the right under our constitution to have good government. Equal representation across Canada...if past precedent has been that the house convenes according to its published schedule, I would surmise that they are bound by law to do their lawful elected duty. Carole James is doing her job! Where are the others?
"..Carole James is doing her job!.."

Heehee! Looks good on her, howling outside the house!
Agree totaly Tinyapplecork.
Why do the people of this country put up with the BS these politicians feed us.
It's time for everyone to stand up and send these dictators a message from the people.

WE ARE SICK AND TIRED OF YOUR BS AND WE ARE NOT GOING TO TAKE IT ANYMORE!
One of our problems is that we the people are too civilized and the politicians rely on it so they can give it to us without fearing any repercussions.
We live in a country driven and run by corporate greed that is administered by our parliamentary dictatorship.
All they are concerned with is their own personal wealth and how they can keep the people (Sheep) in line to help them achieve that wealth.

Look around the world, there are many places were the people hold there politicians responsible for their actions and deal with them harshly.
We can't do that here you say?
BS it's time to change who runs this show don't you think?
Campbell and his ilk KNOW full well that in actual fact, there is NOTHING we can really do about it!
There is little we can do about ANYTHING they pull off...right now.
The only recourse the voter has is at the ballot box, and they also know that this is when our memories tend to be shortest.
Human nature dictates that we will go with the evil we DO know, as opposed to the evil we DON'T know!
They understand that perfectly.
Considering that we have a political system that was designed by polticians to benefit and protect politicans, all the hollering becomes little more than an irritation to them.
If they even bother to listen.
In their self-serving,power driven minds,a couple of tasty handouts before the next election in May and all will be well out here in la-la land for another 4 year term.
Look to see Campbell keep a very low profile until shortly before the next election, and his cabinet on a very short leash, then the great Gordo will pop up and really lay some big ones on us.
Just once,I would like to see the voters in B.C.pull their heads out of that obscure part of their anatomies and actually do something completely unpredictable...for no other reason than it would simply be the RIGHT thing to do as a matter of principal... and kick their sorry asses down the road!
They have grown progressively more arrogant and ruthless (I would use the word criminal, but I can't prove that...yet!) over their last two terms.
I originally voted for Campbell and crew, and the thought of what they will do with a third term scares the hell out of me!
I care who is elected, but I also care about what is right and what is wrong.
And Campbell is just plain WRONG!
Not that I am a Carole James supporter, but she is right. The citizens of this province deserves to have a government that actually puts in some work. Didn't the legislature sit for a grand total of 43 days in 2006? And this even before they gave themselves and their deputy ministers huge pay raises that are out of line with reality, common sense, and the average BC citizen? Was this not the same government that promised in 2001 to sit through both spring and fall sittings?

43 days of work and a salary that starts at $76,000 for a base salary and a possible additional $39,000/year if you are a a cabinet minister? Lets remember to that Gordo charged his so-called "independent" tribunal with a 90 days deadline to find a raise for MLA's? 90 days to find a solution for giving their worthless hides a raise, but how days do we have to wait in the North for a solution or strategy for the Pine Beetle, mill closures, Post-Secondary cutbacks, K-12 school closures?

Who in here would like to work just 43 days a year?

Don't have time for legislature, too busy trying to figure out how to sell off the province to corporate buddies during next term in office.
