Prince George, B.C.- They have walked more than half way across Canada to take their message to Parliament Hill, and today, the day they had planned to deliver that message, there is no guarantee the  Prime Minister will be there.
The group is “The Walk For Justice”, and they carry nearly three thousand signatures from people calling for public inquiries into the unsolved cases of over 3000 missing or murdered women.
Born  out of the  so called Highway of Tears  where  numerous women ( mostly First Nations) have  disappeared or have been  found  murdered, and the East Side of Vancouver where sex trade workers fell victim to Willie Pickton, the walk  was planned to raise awareness and  demand action.
The plan was to present the names of the missing and murdered women, along with the petition with all the signatures to Prime Minister Stephen Harper.
Walk organizer, Gladys Radek says it won’t matter if Harper is there or not “We have walked all this way, and we won’t not go ahead with our plans for the event at Parliament Hill just because there is an election campaign under way.”   Radek says   the Harper Government’s apology to residential school survivors was a surprise, so she wouldn’t be surprised if the election has been called because, in her words “Maybe he sees justice is coming.”
The names on the list of missing or murdered women have been compiled over ten years, and Radek says the event today will be the first time that all the names will be made public. The walkers have been on their journey since the121st of June and will meet at the Human Rights monument  before walking to Parliament Hill.
As for Radek, today’s events will be the culmination of an incredible journey “I am anxious and a little nervous, we have been through a lot and the core group is still here, and it is as strong as ever.”
