Prince George, B.C.- It’s back to the Council Chambers this evening for Prince George City Council. This is the special meeting required now that the owner of the Columbus Hotel has requested that Council reconsider it’s order that immediate remedial action be taken to remove the burned out remains of the hotel.
Council’s order last week would have seen the owner have just 7 days to complete the demolition and removal of the debris, meaning the work would have had to have been completed by Wednesday ofthis week.
It has since been learned that the City may have ownership of the property as early as the 25th of September having been named the purchaser last September in the tax sale of that property.
While the building was insured, this evening’s presentation by the owner of the property will be the first public comment made since fire destroyed the hotel,   and claimed three lives.

This will determine how strong our encumbant councillors are, will they stick to their guns or cave in to the whinney landlord that couldn't even keep up with the taxes.
hmm...well I think there are some legal issues here that city council overlooked. Will be following this one!
Legal issues? You bet! The City's hired engineer has given an opinion. Does anyone believe in getting second opinions? The insurance company, if there is one, might.

There are a bunch of other issues left dangling as a result of having unpaid taxes.
Taking over ownership of this burned building and the property it sits on is only a good idea if we the people come out ahead of the game after this deal has all been completed with all the associated costs factored in.
Otherwise let the current owner clean up his mess and pay what he owes in back taxes. Then he can do what he likes with his property.
You know like most homeowners have to do with their personal property.
