Vaccinations The Topic of Info Session Tonight

By 250 News

Prince George, B.C.- Immunization is the topic of discussion at the Northern Health Unit this evening, but there may be more questions about one vaccine.
Gardasil is given for the treatment of HPV (human papillomavirus) which is the most prevalent sexually transmitted disease in North America.  Gardasil is also touted as being the key to eradicating cervical cancer as the drug, so far has been very successful with two particular strains of HPV which cause about 70 percent of cervical cancers.

If parents give their consent, girls may have Gardasil added to their regular immunization package which includes vaccine for Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis (Tdap) Hepatitis B, Meningococcal C Conjugate (Meningitis) and Varicella (Chicken Pox).

This evening’s information session will see Medical Health Officer, Dr. William Osei on hand to answer questions about Gardasil and the other vaccines being made available.

The session this evening starts at 7:00 at the Edmonton Street Health Unit.

Sad, sad, sad day.

They should try to salvage the chrome post. Auction that off, some guy will buy it.
oops wrong page
lol..He speaks..hehe

Gardasil has unknown long term effects. I would not give my 12 year old this. It is used for TREATMENT...

Condoms give the same protection by the way.
True Tiny but guinea pigs are easy to test their bright ideas on.
Anyone remember Thalidamide?
Parents need to research this brand new vaccine because the emerging data is showing that even short term side effects are very dangerous. Gardasil is the world's first genetically altered vaccine, and live cancer cultured. Folks really should remember, too, that human papillomavirus (HPV) is virtually 100% avoidable without a vaccine.

Here's a very helpful first stop in the research:

Please look out for our girls, and boys!

I am not sure a vaccine would be used for treatment, Tinyapplecork. Vaccines are usually given to stimulate the body's natural defenses so a later infection can be fought and stopped. If a woman is infected with HPV it is a bit late for that.

I am also pretty certain you did not mean to infer that you provide your 12 year old daughter with condoms, either.

The problem with condoms is that they are often not used in the heat of the moment. Sometimes they are not used on purpose, as when a married couple want a child. If the husband is of the randy pig type, then he could well infect his wife in the process. Should she not be protected, instead of running the risk of carcinoma-in-situ when her baby is small?

However, it is a choice for parents, and no criticism whatever choice each individual family makes.
I've done some research on this topic as my two daughters are in the target age range.

Here's what I've found, for what it's worth:

- Most medical professionals are declaring that, although the long-term efficacy of the vaccine is still untested, the short-term efficacy is very high.
- This is not a replacement for safe-sex practices.
- The vaccine, to achieve maximal efficacy, should be received before becoming sexually active.
- 70% cases of HPV clear spontaneously after one year, 90% after two years.
- Approximately 400 deaths / year occur as the result of cervical cancer (2006) with most of these occuring in 'at risk' populations with poor access to health care.
- Most medical professionals believe the vaccine to be very safe as it does not contain live or dead cells/viruses but virus like cells.

ammonra, you misunderstood...Gardasil is itself used as a treatment. Secondly, if a 12 year old is sexually active I would in fact hand over the condoms! Not saying I endorse under age sexuality, however.

HPV cancers are detected via pap smears! And treated with laser therapy to a 95% success rate. (Canadian Medical Association Encyclopedia)

So, no, I would not give my child this vaccine. We are so bombarded with doping our children with meds, hormones in foods, water supply...etc, etc...

And we wonder why we have not eradicated cancers by now.

Just my opinion, but do also realize, I am not against those parents who choose to give this to their children...it just frightens me that we have not done enough research. Women/girls have typically paid dearly with their health historically with the introduction of the same said drugs supposedly developed to help them!
On reflection, Tinyapplecork, I think your attitude towards a 12 year olds having sex is commendable. Of course, the primary consideration must be protection from venereal disease and pregnancy. The morality is a separate issue altogether.
I'm not sure where the info is coming from that Gardasil is a "treatment". It is not a treatment for HPV.

I did some internet research and the reason gardasil is given to young girls prior to the age they would have sex is that once infected by the HPV viruses it guards against Gardasil becomes ineffective for that virus.

The msot intersting thing about Gardasil is that it does not use viruses at all. It uses proteins that mimic virus particles. There is no genetic material in it at all, no DNA and no RNA, so infections are not possible. In other words, despite the claim above, there is no genetic alteration to the virus like particles, and there cannot be since they contain no DNA.

Look up Gardasil on Wikipedia for scientific and common sense explanations.
