Prince George, B.C. - There is an Air Quality Advisory  in effect for Prince George, that means,OPEN BURNING, WOOD BURNING, AND STREET AND PARKING LOT SWEEPING  are PROHIBITED

The advisory has been issued because of high levels of fine particulate.

The Air Quality objective for PM10 is 50 µg/m3 for a 24 hr. average. Residents should be aware that advisories are only issued when the air quality objective is exceeded but that the majority of adverse health effects are due to long term exposure to fine particulate matter starting at levels well below 50 µg/m3

Based on the air quality data in the downtown and College Heights areas, the high levels are due to a mix of dust (coarser particles), and combustion emissions (smoke). A high pressure ridge has brought warm, dry conditions with calm winds resulting in pollutants accumulating in the air shed. A weak disturbance is expected to go through the area early tomorrow morning which should help in the improvement in the air quality. The 24 hour PM10 rolling average was 50 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown site at 4:00 pm, 62 µg/m3 at BCR, and 33 µg/m3 at College Heights this afternoon. The 24 hour PM2.5 rolling average was 19 µg/m3 at the Plaza 400 downtown and 15µg/m3 at College Heights. This Air Quality Advisory is expected to be in effect until further notice, with an update to be provided late tomorrow morning at 11:00am
