Prince George, B.C.-  More speakers  have been added to the  downtown community rally set for this Saturday.

Former Premier Mike Harcourt has been confirmed  as an attendee and speaker at the noon hour rally  to take place at 3rd and George.

Harcourt is the Honorary Chair of the International  Centre for Sustainable Cities. His keynote address is expected to  convey  a passionate belief in the power of communities to improve  the human condition and offer insights into how cities like Prince
George can be transformed through the principles of sustainability,  particularly in relation to social inclusion in the broadest sense.

“We are very excited to have Mr. Harcourt appear at the Rally,” said   Shari Green President of Downtown Prince George. “He brings so much  knowledge and experience to the numerous issues facing our downtown,  and downtowns the world over."

Another key speaker, will be Phil Bonhame,   who wrote the Prince George Revitalization Report in 2000.  His firm was instrumental in  the planning and developing of Granville Island (Vancouver, B.C),  Whistler Village (Whistler, B.C.), Lonsdale Quay (North Vancouver,
B.C.) and Eau Claire Market/Prince’s Island Village (Calgary, AB.)  among others.

The rally  is  supposed to be an opportunity to put forth ideas and "get started" on  revitalizing downtown.

Mike Harcourt?

Gord help us.
Thank goodness a sensible provincial leader is coming to speak to us. He'll make a lot more sense than Gordo.
Dont bet on it astro. Harcourt is nothing more than an NDPer. Dont expect much from him.
Thats right Astro what are you thinking.
At least with Gordo and Co, we can expect to keep giving them all our hard earned money for ever and ever and ever.
The NDP only wants to see the people of this province prosper, while the Lib's want their corporate buddies and lawyer friends prosper.
You know, like the 21% wage increase etc, etc, etc.

Remember who was screwing who during the next election.
I think he'll be great. He was a very good Mayor of Vancouver for three terms. And he's moved way beyond partisan political politics. And he's got a great personal story. I look forward to hearing him speak.
If they are serving a meal expect Mike to be first in line.
I did not see anything in the above article to suggest that Mikey was running for public office, did I miss something?
metalman.
LOL Mike Harcourt????The NDP and any of there old cronies need to be nowhere near this deal.I still remember when he became premier he said "BC lets get ready to boogie" then he and his NDP buddies promptly ran this great province into the ground.Anyone expecting anything brilliant out of his mouth should not be holding their breath.Just my opinion folks
lostfaith, you obviously weren't around BC in the 90's.
So when the provincial economy goes in the toilet this time whose fault is it?
Maybe Campbell wants to lose so all the blame will again fall on the NDP.
When will people realize this province's economy follows resource prices, and none of the no-minds in Victoria can change that regardless of their political stripes.
We're not talking about an election or who did what for god's sake, we are talking about revitalizing a downtown. Thank you to the organizers of this who are the first people I've seen actually try to do something about revitalization.

Maybe you complainers of everything should all get up there and talk since you seem to know so much.
Greta, we've been talking about downtown revitalization for a long time, many years in fact, so please excuse us if we go off-topic.
Who cares if he is or was NDP? Bruce Strachan is speaking too and I don't hear anyone complaining about Social Credit. Maybe if people stopped voting for parties and name recognition and started voting for people based on their skills and knowledge, we wouldn't have the downtown mess we've had for the past 30 years.
Mr Harcourt stands on his record of community involvement. This is NOT a political issue...this is a COMMUNITY issue!!!

Start acting like a community and you will be amazed at what will be accomplished.

Those that have been invited to speak have EXPERIENCE and SUCCESS with the concerns our citizens have griped about.

Time to have an open mind to ACTION!

WORK TOGETHER. Lay down your petty biases and egos long enough to see each others' strengths and there WILL be REVITALIZATION.
Looking back I was just thinking that if Glen Clark's friend built Mikey a railing for his sundeck, he wouldn't have fallen off. By the way, where is Moe Sahota? Why not bring him along? NDP. Pro-union, but then he hired non-union guys to do renovations on his home. Whatever fits, eh?
Get started on "downtown revitalization?" It would be very much easier to " get real!" It ain't gonna happen.
well if it isn't your problem why say anything about it at all? Problem solving requires brainstorming solutions, coming to a consensus on the best one(s), putting the solution into action.
Dedicated community leaders (yes, even Harbinger & Yama could be if they choose) coming together and working on the shared goals will revitalize the downtown!
That is what COMMUNITY is.
Time for PG's famous COMMUNITY SPIRIT!
Couldn't have said it better myself tinyapplecork......as for Harbinger - it's people like you that keep this city stagnant. You seem to have alot to say - too bad it is all so negative. Why don't you leave the dark side and put your energy toward something positive. And why has this become a NDP issue?? Huh?
