Prince George, B.C.- The Premier says the province is looking for some way to get the Highway 37 electrification project under way.
Speaking on the Meisner program yesterday, the Premier says the province is still working on the electrification project “We share your enthusiasm for it, it is unprecedented to have a quarter of a billion dollars sitting on the table waiting for the partnerships to come together. You should know and everyone there should know we are working on creating the first step of the partnership so more and more partners can join us in British Columbia as we can build the economic strength in the northwest.” ( at right, map, courtesy the Northwest powerline Coalition shows  proposed power line)
The Premier says the public will not cover the whole cost, “The investments we make will be made to generate additional economic activity in the future.”   He says there are great opportunities in the northwest,   and the province is working on partnerships similar to what had been developed in the oil and gas industry.
The Province had agreed to split the cost of the electrification of Highway 37 with the developers of the Galore Creek mine. Then Galore Creek was put on hold, and the electrification project has been sitting on the shelf since.
The Northwest Powerline Coalition has been pushing the Province to move forward on the project on the matters of First Nations consultation or other action which would send a strong signal that the Province is committed to the project. The Coalition argues that without some real action, mining companies aren’t likely to get a loan from the bank to support their part of a partnership.

"Build it and they will come" Just like old W.A.C. did.
Who did the B.C. taxpayer partner with for the Whistler/Vancouver games? Looks like the north is on its own in this province, the south reaps the benifits any social infrastructure.
BC did not build the Olympic facilities and then go bid on them. As much as many may not like the money put into the Olympics, it is not a good example to compare.
Sorry Gus the example is fine. BC and Canada spend a lot of money on the preliminary work to bid the olympics (millions not including time spent by govt employees). All the coalition is asking is that the govt. begin preliminary work to assist a partner coming forward - intial first nations consultation, environmental assessment and engineering -- the coalition has not asked it to be built before a partner comes forward.

How about BC Hydro as a partner? Gordo is again trying to get his freinds involved so they can rip us off with higher costs for our electricity. There is no end to the stupidity of this government.

Cheers
I'm not sure "stupidity" is the right word there, Bridge.... they are actually pretty smart operators, smart enough to keep making people believe they (the people) are being served for their (the peoples') betterment .... I might suggest the word "greedy" might be a better word.

It really doesn't matter whose hand is on the wheel... the shiny gold in the treasury does something to the best of them... fairness seems to disappear once the taste of avarice is sweetened with the pleasures of power.

How about a hydro line to Ft. Nelson? They have diesel generators and have to get the rest of their power from Alberta. Or is that still being studied?
excuse me, am I missing something here? This partnership thing that they keep doing with their "buddies"??? Is this their money that they are using for this BS??? And the future partnership's they propose! I say again, is it their money???

NO IT IS NOT GORDO!!! It is OUR money, and if you want to play with OUR money, and go into partnerships, with OUR money, you better ask US first!!

You are the most corrupt politician that I have ever seen!! What are our taxes legally for, that is what I want to know! Do we have no say, in where our money goes, other than these idiots that were elected, and feel like can do what ever they want with OUR money.

Wake up everybody, we don't have to put up with this BS, anymore!!

When I go to a store, and purchase something with my hard earned money, I get a receipt. On that receipt, there is a list of everything I purchased, and the price I paid for EACH individual item! It also includes all the taxes I have paid on these items.

Stay with me on this please. If I shop at Revenue Canada, I get a receipt for a lump sum. It does not tell me what I have spent my money on!! It should, and until it does, I think we should all withhold our taxes.

I want to know, to the penny, where my tax dollars are going, and if I/we don't like some of the spending, we should put a stop to it!!
I realize that the country and the provinces need some money, but I want to know for what, and how much, damn it!! And if we find them (politicians) spending it at will, we will put a stop to it NOW, not at election time!

I am fed up with GORDO and his thugs. Come on BC get some b---s!!! Lets put an end to these over paid parasites!!

A total tax revolt is in order, as well as civil disobedience!! Wake up Canada!! It is time. WE ARE NOT AFFRAID OF GOVERNMENT,WE ARE THE GOVERNMENT, the politicians are, our emploee's. Does anybody understand this???

Have a great non-free life in this non democratic country.
