Prince George, B.C.- It’s official, the Mackenzie Pulp Mill, that used to be owned by Pope and Talbot, is now under new ownership. The deal closed late yesterday afternoon.
Minister of Forests and Range, Pat Bell says the owner, Dan White of Worthington Properties of Edmonton, is looking to get the mill back up and running soon. “It is my understanding that if the mill is not brought back on stream before the cold weather, the start up would have to wait until the spring, so Mr. White is looking to get the mill operating before it gets too cold.”
Some employees have been told to report to work on the 25th.
Minister Bell says   although the mill has no contract for fibre supply, there is about two months supply of chips on site and White has been talking to several independents about fibre supply.
Canfor used to have an agreement to supply the pulp mill with chips from its Mackenzie sawmill, but Canfor recently reached an agreement with the receiver of the Pope and Talbot operation which released it from having to continue to supply chips. “There are a number of independents in the Prince George area who have not had places to take their chips, so I think there may be discussions with them” says Bell.

Well lets hope they can make a go of it. Mackenzie pulp has been a money maker in years past so hopefully it can be so again
This is great news for Mackenzie!
way to go dan white now just think about getting another local mill going to provide you with chips you won't be disapointed I promise
And the union boss is CRYING cause "no one told me"....awhhhh poor boy!

Once again the unions first reaction is about its pride rather than the good news for the members the the city. What a JOKE
Don't see anything about the union here!
Amen, Dan White and Worthington Investments, thank you for answering our prayers.
The union boss was interviewed on the radio upset that the union was not involved in the negotiation and he was not officially told of the sale
why should he be told. why would the buyer involve another party to the table to cloud up the matter more. sounds like a little baby crying over split milk
The union has been working on thisright from start when deal closed when app dropped out of buying mill. the union has been working with upper management since that time with all party,s interested in buying mill. He,s not crying at all just wishes there were more discussions about getting people back to work, time lines and such,he wasn,t expecting to be part of sale just wanted insight on what is going on, the local@ mackenzie has relayed more info on pulp sale to managment than they new about, so before you go bleeping your little mouths off you better have some insight on to whats going on,by the sounds of it you dont have a clue so shut up!
Great news!!
Good luck to all of you who work at the mill.
May it run for many years to come.
The PG Canfor pulp mills are taking every available chip on the market as is and are even sourcing from two chip plants running full out to keep up with there needs.

The only source for chips that I can see is if an independent sets up a chipping plant for whole logs. Ideally this would not be from the Mackenzie area because that is the area where the future fiber basket is because it has not been yet been hit with the pine beetle as bad. I would think a chipping plant would be better if it was set up in the Vanderhoof-Fraser Lake-Fort St James area and the quicker a resource road was in connecting Fort St James to Mackenzie the better for this pulp mill operation and the better for the future of our whole forest industry by chipping whole logs that are beetle logs... when we have no choice but to chip whole logs.

Chips as a split off product of the dimensional lumber simply is not available at this time... unless the current source is being replaced by a whole log chipping plant elsewhere.

It will be very interesting to see where the chips will come from.

Huge opportunity IMO for someone with money.
Worldahurt...what local do you belong too?
