City Of Prince George Wins 100k in Green Award

Prince George-   City councillor and mayoralty candidate Don Zurowski says the city of Prince George will receive about $95,000 dollars under the community Action Charter.

The city had introduced initiatives to reduce its carbon footprint Zurowski says and now will receive a grant of $95,000 dollars from the province.

The announcement came from Premier Gordon Campbell at the Union of BC Municipal convention in Penticton, and will affect about 130 cities and towns in the province who have signed onto the program.

At the same time Zurowski says the city has been awarded $100,000 dollars for the green cities award in the province. Prince George had been in the running with Kamloops and North Vancouver for the award.

The City of Prince George says Zurowski has led the way in items such as sewer treatment, voluntary water meter reading, and bio diesel for the cities bus fleet along with increased use of city buses to reduce traffic.
