Prince George, B.C. -Progress Prince George has released a report which outlines six issues the City of Prince George should  focus on.  The six points in the Stategic Issues report were developed from suggestions by Dr. Michael Goldberg, Professor and Dean Emeritus, at the University of B.C. it was thought he would  provide a fresh perspective,  from someone on the outside looking in.

His suggestions mirror the projects Initiatives Prince George has already identified:

  1. A concerted focus on downtown redevelopment and revitalization.
  2. Regional economic diversification through building on transportation and logistics advantages, including multi-modal connectivity in all four directions and the city’s geographic location on a great circle route between the US and Asia.
  3. Focus on Mining and Energy as key growth catalyst sectors for local Prince George service and supply industries and light manufacturing.
  4. Support the growth of innovation, knowledge and research capacity at UNBC – one of four provincial research Universities – and trades and technical training at CNC in recognition of both institutions’ critical role in enabling further economic development and diversification.
  5. Recognize and build on health care as an economic driver in Prince George and as a marketable service in its own right.
  6. Redouble efforts to engage with First Nations to improve social conditions and assist efforts to create wealth from the northern and central BC land base.
“The Strategic Issues Report is an important contribution to building a dialogue across our community on the steps we need to take to build on successful economic diversification efforts over the past decade" noted Sharon Cochran, co-chair of Progress Prince George.

“The priorities that Progress Prince George has outlined confirm the direction Initiatives Prince George is taking with its 3-Year strategic plan, and will help our organization to further focus our efforts over the short to medium term”, stated Tim McEwan, President and CEO of Initiatives Prince George.

When will we stop talking and start doing? The sooner we seperate CNC from UNBC and start training people that know how to work and do things instead of all these ideas that dont seem to materialize the sooner we will have a better place to live.

We are spending tax dollars for airports and all sorts of development plans and nothing seems to happen. Oh I forgot Chance closed its doors.

Cheers
You have got to be kidding.

How much did this cost us? Looking at the six points, it's the same old rhetoric. Yawn.

You can cut and paste this report and all of the comments and re-issue them again every six months. Oh wait, that's what we have been doing.
