Prince George, B.C.-   In honour of national Right to Know Week, Information and Privacy Commissioner David Loukidelis has announced a Right to Know Contest for B.C. students to test their knowledge of information rights.

"It is important that students understand the role that access to information plays in promoting a healthy and transparent democracy," says the Commissioner. "We hope to encourage students to become actively interested in the workings of government and, as part of that,
think about how much information they have to assess the performance of government and how they can access even more information to better allow them to participate in discussions about the future."

The contest is an online contest that will run from today  to Friday, Oct. 3.  This 15-question quiz will test students' expertise and present them with a report card.  The answers and scores will not be stored by the OIPC; once the score has been provided, the answers
will be automatically deleted. Every completed quiz is a chance to win the grand prize, an iPod Touch. Winners will be randomly selected.

Students aren't the only ones who can be involved.  The OIPC has created a game for all ages called "Process Adders and Access Ladders," which can be printed off and played.  The game  is on the premise you are an investigative reporter looking for imformation.  Role the dice and see how long it takes you to access your records!

I wonder if any of our MLA's and MP's will be playing. They seem to have a very ow profile and wish to stay away from the public as much as possible. Our MLA's did not have a fall sitting of the legislature and in the spring session, used closure to push through legislation, like the gas tax. We still have had no debate on TILMA. As for the MP's, Hill did not show up for an all candidates forum at UNBC. So much for our "Right to Know."
