Prince George, B.C. - People gathered this weekend at Fort George Park for this year's BC River Days. Several booths were also in place, including Northern Bear Awareness. Spokesperson Barb Durau says props help children learn and understand their cause.

“The black bear hide actually belonged to a 5 year old garbage bear that had to be destroyed,” said Durau.

She says kids quickly understand. “The skull was from a grizzly—all of the teeth are broken because that's a consequence of a bear eating garbage.”

Other booths also included one from the Prince George Public Library where it featured story telling.

How unlucky they were with the weather. It was supposed to be nice today.

We live at the confluence of two rivers. We are extremely blessed to have the rivers. BUT what have we done to promote and enjoy them - we have placed industry in the way of people getting to the rivers. That includes the expansion of CN with the huge containers going through and cutting the City in two. I would like to see the rivers reclaimed and then downtown could grow.

Get the CN and industry away from the rivers and give the rivers back to the people.
Why is this day at such a time of year? It would be better to have it sometime in the summer. It works for the southern parts of the world, but northern parts are busy making sure the ice excavators are ready to go.
