Prince George, B.C.- There will be a request this evening for Prince George City Council to approve giving Initiatives Prince George $150,000 USD  (that's $155,279 CDN)to pay out the agreement with Horizon Air. The City had guaranteed to pay up to $400 thousand U.S. if the airline lost money on the P.G to Seattle flight. The flight was cancelled within 4 months, and the payout represents the City’s share of the guarantee.
Also on the agenda this evening, Council will be asked to agree to give the World Baseball Championship $100 thousand dollars for temporary seating.
Councillor Don Zurowski will present his motion calling for some closure on recent fires that have left “unsightly “ buildings in the downtown core. In particular, the building at 2nd and Quebec  has been a burned out shell for more than a year. The B.& B Music site is a gaping hole at the corner of Third and George. “Disasters happen, however there needs to be closure to the unsightliness of the property” reads the motion.
The Mayor’s Committee on Seniors will present it’s semi annual report with 8 recommendations to make the city more friendly to seniors and to promote the health and well being of seniors.
The City’s new Healthy Food policy will be up for discussion, if passed, there won’t be any “super sized” anything at Civic facilities, nothing that’s labelled “jumbo” and vending machines will have to have at least a 50-50 mix of healthy and not so healthy items.
And Council will be asked to come up with $80 thousand dollars for half the bill of the preliminary design work for Boundary Road. The City and local land owners are expected to kick in $16 million which would be one third of the $48 million dollar cost of the roadway that will link highway 16 east to Highway 97 south.

Sounds like lots of money will be thrown around tonight!! And most of it a waste!! But of course, an election coming up!!

Hello, potholes = very bad roads!! And they want to spend another $48,000,000.00 on a new road. Give me a break. We can't get the ones we have, in good repair, and we are going to build another one!!

Vote them all out!! I saw Eugene at the toy run. Any noise about him running for Mayor??? He certainly would be better than the options we have now!!

have a great day everyone, I'm going for a ride in the sunshine!!!
Bet there won't be any big bucks heading towards the Seniors' causes, or that of the homeless. But that isn't where the votes are, is it?
I bet the only item that will NOT be passed is putting some money into infrastructure, as in roads Boundary Road.

$155K for airlines
$100K for sport seats
$??? for the bums downtown,
but no $80K for road design? Normal.

Wonder how much the Bus clean up is going to be? Wonder if everyone can increase their city taxes to help out?
If the city wanted to help seniors then it would eliminate the cost to service a city lot if the city lot is developed with a rancher style wheel chair accessible home for the disabled and growing elderly population. The four story mansions that seem to be part of every neighborhood development in town will be the curse of this city in the future I think. The city used to cover these service costs for all developments, so I see no reason why it can't make the donation to direct the kind of housing seniors will need.
Hey, City needs to get there facts. The B&B are trying to get the building rebuilt.
As taxpayers I think we need to ask ourselves what exactly initiatives PG brings to the table? What was the purpose of the Horizon deal? my opinion is that it was done in desperation so that we can tag the airport as "international" what a joke
There was a seasonal flight to Mexico before Horizon. The part I do not like about it was that it served those locals who wanted to get a US flight to someplace else out of Seattle. Those are the people who take their money out of the country and spend it elsewhere rather than in Canada. They also take foreign flights rather than Canadian flights. Why did those people need to be subsidized with our tax dollars? Talk about special interest groups and elitism.
I thought the deal with Horizon was a for one year, they did'nt make it after a year the get the 400k. They didnt last 6 months and then pulled out. Not sure why they are getting paid anything

"He speaks" B&B is trying to rebuild but red tape (not B&B) is holding it up.
I agree that Horizon pulled out before competion of the agreement....not a month or two but 8 months before...I don't think they should get a dime...they presumed that thee wasn't the need for this flight...they would have been paid had there not even been one person flying...
Breach of contract....no money!!!!!!
Hey it could have been worse, just before Horizon pulled the plug, they had their hands out for more money citing higher fuel costs.

I think someone mentioned it above, there is a concerted effort for whatever reason to make the Prince George Airport into an 'international' airport no matter what the cost.
at the time there was a lot off concern about putting taxpayers money at risk. Well now the concern is a reality. Might be a good thought to let those who made the decision also to be finnically responsible. The city council should remember that their first responsiblity is to the taxpayers not to cater to big bussness. It is one thing to give out tax breaks to encourage bussness but to offer guarantees against failure with someones elses cash is just plain irresponsible.
The city and IPG had no business entering into this deal. THANK YOU..Gerry offet for your legacy. We will never forget you,
Betcha a lot of folks won't remember any of this crap come November. Pity, eh?
Fetterly for Mayor?!?!? If you really think that's a solution to any of our problems I'm truly scared.
