Prince George, B.C.- The Prince George Chamber of Commerce is among the B.C. Chambers giving a postive thumbs upto the announcement the Province is proceeding with envirionmental assessment and First Nations consultation for the extension of electricity along the highway 37 corridor.
In policies adopted at the BC Chamber of Commerce 56th Annual General Meeting and Conference in Whistler at the end of May, the members pointed specifically to the Northwest Transmission Line Project as an infrastructure improvement essential to the economic development of Northwestern BC.
“Building a viable and responsive provincial infrastructure is the responsibility of the Provincial Government,” says Prince George Chamber of Commerce President Albert Koehler. “The Northwest Transmission Line is a necessary development to bring Northern BC in line with the infrastructure improvements being made in other areas of the province, and to recognize and encourage the huge contributions that Northern BC makes to the province’s economy as a whole.”
“It is a substantial investment” said John Winter, President and CEO of the BC Chamber of Commerce. “But absolutely necessary if the government ever wishes to see the Northern reaches of this province advance to the next stage of their economy.”
The Northwest Transmission Line promises to open up the Northwest region of BC to important economic development, but has been on hold for almost a year. As significant funds have already been spent on its development the Chamber of Commerce is relieved to see that the Provincial Government is taking steps to ensure they aren’t wasted.

However no one believed the NDP when they were defeated and told us they had a billion dollar surpluse. Now should we believe the Campbell government or is it all just paper money.
It would be a sad day if the Campell government went ahaed with other large projects with partnerships. It would allow these partners to rip us off like the gas barons are doing at the present time.
