Prince George, B.C. - Several prominent business and community leaders have taken the next step in their search for municipal candidates who support their 5 main points.
Speaking on the Meisner program on 93.1 CFIS this morning, “Lets Go PG” member, Dan McLaren says the public call is for candidates, “new or incumbent” who support:
1.      Safe streets
2.      Downtown revitalization, Group leader Dan McLaren says he thinks the typical voter would like to see bolder steps taken. “It is hard to imagine an issue about which there has been so much talk, and so little action”
3.      Lowest taxes possible. McLaren says taxes have risen over the level of inflation and the rate of growth
4.      Pro-Development: Prince George needs to be open for business.
5.      Environmental Sustainability policies that work in harmony with the environment.
McLaren says several business people have put their money where their mouths are, and may be willing to offer financial support, endorsements and volunteer time to ensure the best candidates are elected.

Finally.
Maybe the voters of PG will cast their votes based on a platform, instead of recognizing someone's name on the ballot form. Some of these current councillors need to admit they have done close to nothing but tow the mayor's line for 4,or 8 years. Step aside and let some new, motivated, energetic blood into the place!!!
I think we have lots of safe streets. We can keep those safe easy enough, but I'm guessing the unsafe ones are downtown again. Every city has their skuzzy areas and those streets you stay out of unless you want to fight.

Downtown revitalization is a dud. Move on to other areas of the city. Toomuch energy is being wasted on a part of the city that is not going to change for a long time.

Taxes are rising because city council is buying into things like moving a section of Cameron Street bridge to the park. Smarten up.

Pro development, good idea, but it comes at a cost. Electing people that only have re-election on their minds means PG will suffer.

Environment, everybody has gone over board on that one. The babyboomers want their cake and eat it to, so look ater the water and learn to live with the air we make. You can't even pound in a nail without someone howling about something.

I'll run...
here is my line...
I will tax you silly...
I will lie like crazy...
I will waste tax dollars on stupid stuff...
I will take numerous trips on taxpayer dollars....

well as leat I am honest

Thats the old system of getting elected. Big money gets what it wants and thats been going on for years. Ever check how much money that Kinsley got from busineses during the last election? And sounds like it will happen again.

All these big business guys are concerned about is getting our tax dollars to shore up the economy so that they can make a profit on their investment.

Cheers
"All these big business guys are concerned about is getting our tax dollars to shore up the economy so that they can make a profit on their investment"

Here is a quick economics tip for you Bridge , If business's don't make a profit you will not have a job!!

That's what the makes the world go around and around.
The world going around and around, while these guys want it to stop, is making them dizzy and silly. Hollering about jobs and not stopping to think that anyone that makes a job wants to get paid for it also.
Sounds like a Chamber of Commerce special interest slate to me.
Big Business Guys? I think not. Small to Medium size business. More likely. Responsible for more than 40% of the jobs in the country. Don't be so critical & judgemental.
I am so tempted to put my name forward...but my current obligations are preventing me from doing so. I would love the opportunity to give Dan and Don some competition...
Typical business people, putting their money where their mouths are, thinking the "right" people on Council can be bought like other things they are used to buying. Maybe one or two of them will realize that they need to put their time and personal efforts where their mouths are.
If I ran for elected office I'd have the B'nai Brith and the Canadian Human Rights Tribunal terrorizing my character through the wholly owned and operated zionist media network in Canada. I have no doubts about that as they have made that clear in the past. Anyone that questions the politics of zionism or their aparthide project in Israel where they are committing generational genocide is not allowed to run for politics in Canada as exampled by the removal of the respected Leslie Hughes the former CBC journalist as a liberal candidate recently.

I won't compromise by beliefs and values in order to have a career in politics and as such I will be labeled a racist that I am not and they will stop at nothing to ensure something sticks to destroy any good reputation I might have.

I upset the zionist apple cart on the financial blogs calling the fraud for what it was and attracted a whole army (must have been at least 50-to-1) of hard core zionists from the bankers on Wall Street, to the lawyers in Chicago, to the retired generals and all in between during the tech melt down and start to the Iraq war. It started out I just wanted to learn how to type... and then once provoked I couldn't stop. I was right on all accounts and they were universally wrong, but when they could not hide their lies much longer I was then banned from the financial blogs like RagingBull (2005) and received numerous threatening e-mails from their kind. They know who I am and will jump at the opportunity to get in my way if I ran for office. That doesn't scare me, I will run one day... and they know it... but when that day comes I have to be prepared not so much to win the voters over (I think that would be easy), but rather the challange will come in adressing their attacks and being prepared to deliver them a knock out blow to their political agenda when they make their inuendo moves to get in my way.

Thats the reality I will have to deal with and I'm sure many others as well even if they don't realize it until its too late. I accept the challange, but it means I will have to be completely financially independent before I can throw my hat into the ring. In the mean time I think I can do just as much sharing ideas in public and having other politicians take credit when they do the right thing.

Time Will Tell
Eagle, I think you need a hobby... other than making posts like the one above.
Gus, maybe YOU have a better idea than the "business" people do then to get some educated, dedicated and interested people on council who will make PG a better and safer place to be. Let's hear it. I don't see anyone else making any kind of an attempt other than to put down the very people who are trying to make a difference.
Dont forget to visit Dan Rogers website and drop him a few bucks. Put your money where your mouth is.

Dont worry about Zuroskih he will have have the Chambers backing with lots of big bucks coming his way.

Cheers
Dan Rogers? Drop him a few bucks? With interest on those bucks, by the time he decided how to spend them he'd be very rich!
Greta. I said the business people should run. Dan McLaren should run. He should name those who have put up money and they should run.

As far as ideas go.

1. Safe streets - does anyone NOT want safe street? Every single candidate that is running will want that. So, they can give everyone of those some money.

2. bold steps for downtown so-called revitalization. I think that is on the tip of every candidate's tongues as well. From the posters here and a significant number of people in the community, that is another matter. So, some more money to thise condidates.

3. Lowest taxes possible - who would not want that? Notice is does not say lowest tax in the province. It says lowest tax possbile. Dan knows we already have the lowest business property tax in the province. Ask him! He just wants to make sure it stays that way.

4. Pro development - who is not for that? We have less restrictions than other cities in this province of similar or larger size. They should have closed down the Columbus, but they did not. Can anyone be more pro-business?

5. Environmentally sustainable policies - that means recycling for example, not allowing businesses to open up when they do not use the best technology available such as the new pellet plant. See how pro development we are? We keep on letting businesses open up to put junk in the air because we are afraid they will go somewhere else. Ask Dan if he is concerned about that. How pro business is he and the other hangers on that are not indentified.

Money is not the object for most people. Time and dedication is. All I am asking for is that if these people are dedicated and experts in how to get things that will work done, it is them we need, not their money.
You guys and gals are tough...
maybe I shouldn't run afterall....
You're a racer. Running is your life. If you did not run, what would you do?
