Prince George, B.C.- It is going to be a busy night for Prince George City Council.
The airport lands are on the agenda three times in different forms. First, there will be a presentation from the company which helped develop  the plan for the Prince George   airport logistics park. The presenters will outline how the   Prince George airport makes sense form a purely financial concern for shippers as the lack of landing fees, and shorter taxi time result in significant savings.
The, Council will be asked to approve the zoning changes for the property,   and the third request is for changes in zoning to allow a smaller parcel to be part of the big picture.
Also on the agenda, details of the plans for the Prince George Veterans Plaza- Spirit Square. This is the plan to upgrade the cenotaph and make City Hall more accessible and less inviting for undesirable behaviour.
Council will be asked to make a financial contribution to the Cold snap folk festival, last year the City contributed  $10,000 dollars.
And the Spruceland mall is looking to upgrade it’s façade. The development permit triggered new landscaping requirements which Spruce land would like to see waived.

Sorry I thought I read above there there will be no landing fees for the cargo planes ? So they will never help pay for the $32 million dollar run way and we are hoping from selling fuel and the few spin off jobs that this justifies this project ?
Reminds me of that song "..take this job and shove it, .. I ain't worken' here no mo'.."

In PG there will three mo' people lined up to take that job. Screw the landing fees, bring on whatever these planes need in the way of jobs, the rest of us aren't fussy.
Doesnt seem fair to the passenger planes that do have to pay landing fees...?
Will council discuss the item from today's Citizen (Enough Studies) regarding the need to put an end to all the studies by the City and actually get on with the job of dredging the confluence of the rivers to prevent a major repeat flooding?

Even the Provincial Government seems to be getting frustrated with the endless studies and the lack of action...go figure!
I just came back from a conference where there was municipal workers from over 30 different cities. They all indicated they might do a study or retain the services of an outside expert maybe once or twice a year. Here in PG it is at least twice a month another study, to study something that has been studied before is announced.

We should be laying off 50% of the Managers / planners at city hall. Get back to people who do work versus just talk about it.
Why dont they do a study to see why the logistics park at the airport is going where it is and if they they should spend 48 million on a raod for access to the park.

Cheers
"...The presenters will outline...for shippers...the lack of landing fees,"

Right after they landed they will be informed that taking off will cost twice the usual fee!

Bingo!
To go along with the way this council is thinking at this time, they should spend half the council meeting to commisiion a study to determine if popcorn with butter on it is healthy or not. That way, they can get popcorn banned at the movies so we can make sure we are eating properly.
No landing fees? Betcha a sandwich at the airport restaurant is gonna cost a fortune I guess.
Doesn't your City already claim the airspace above it as outlined by the City boundry lines ??

Perhaps they should be sending an invoice to every airvessel passing through that airspace ??

"Welcome to BC ... bring cash !!"
