Prince George, B.C.- New Democrat leader for B.C. ,  Carole James  has taken to the airwaves to respond to Premier Gordon Campbell’s measures to weather the economic storm.
James says Premier Gordon Campbell failed to cut the tax that needs to be cut, the carbon tax. “If there is one infrastructure program we need first, it’s a green infrastructure plan.” She says she would role back the gas tax and bring in a real climate action plan that would put $570 million dollars back into the pockets of British Columbia. She also says she would give a boost to minimum wage.
“The best thing we can do now is to prepare British Columbians for the green jobs of the future but the Premier didn’t tackle post secondary education. She says she would cut interest rates on student loans by 50%.
Modern infrastructure:  She says the province needs to keep a promise to seismically upgrade schools, new affordable housing, with 2400 affordable housing units right away , and 1200 units per year until everyone has a roof over their heads. “We need to escalate spending on transit and green infrastructure.”
She says the Provincial government failed to address the financial crisis in the north as forestry goes through its worst downturn in decades. James says raw logs should not be leaving the country and she would take action to curtail raw log exports and invest in the land base with silviculture and reforestation.
She says the Premier could take action today to stop new waste, including spending millions of dollars in advertising telling British Columbians what a great job the government is doing. She is calling on the Premier to stop the ads immediately.
She also calls for the Premier to roll back the 30% pay hike that was approved at the beginning of the summer.
While the Premier has recalled the legislature for November 20th, James says the Premier should recall the legislature now.

It's funny to read what people will say when they don't have a hope in hell of getting into office!! They will promise anything because they know they won't have to follow through with the promise.
"duffer" you really are,

Gordo has sold out this Province, and he needs to be removed. He is a dictator, having no consideration for the people, who are the tax payers, who pay his wages, who pay the bills!! He does not have the right, under a democratic society, to do what he is doing!!

This is our money, not his!! Kick the jerk out, now!! He belongs in a jail cell for stealing so much from us!! Open up your eyes! Free country????????????? I think not!!

If Carole James can promise me, that the NDP, will not send us down the tube, like they did the last time they were in power, she will get my vote!

Gordy, no matter what, you will not see my X by your pathetic name!!
"If Carole James can promise me, that the NDP, will not send us down the tube, like they did the last time they were in power, she will get my vote!"

The NDP is hoping everyone will forget about the last time they were in power.

I won't...
Carole James: "She says she would role back the gas tax and bring in a real climate action plan that would put $570 million dollars back into the pockets of British Columbia."

Would it be asking too much to reveal what the NDP *real action climate plan* consists of?

She is right about the pay hike, although the NDP's usual mantra is that MLAs, premiers and ministers etc should be rewarded handsomely for their efforts.

She changed her mind.

The NDP can promise anything - usually politicians will do that in order to get elected. Once elected amnesia sets in.
"Would it be asking too much to reveal what the NDP *real action climate plan* consists of?"

They're going to "soak the Big Polluters", whoever they may be.

That should do two things that one would think Ms. James wouldn't want to do.

One, if a "Big Polluter" is competing in the global marketplace it's going to raise the costs of producing whatever they're producing, making it that much more expensive and uncompetitive with products produced in countries where even elemental pollution standards are non-existant.

And when the costs of the "soaking" our producers are unrecoverable in price globally, the pollution here will indeed stop. For the product won't be made here anymore.
And there goes some more "jobs".

Two, if a "Big Polluter" is producing products for sale here, they'll have to raise the price of those products to you and me and everyone else that buys them here to recover the amount by which they've been "soaked". Or they're out of business. WE will suffer the ultimate cost of the "soaking", in other words. For however much she taxes them by, that will flow through into the price we'll have to pay.

"socredible"

What???????? So pollution is OK in the name of "Big Business"!!

You are "SO-IN-CREDIBLE". Must be with the Lib'S. So sad for you!! You would put money and wealth, before the good of man kind!!

Yep, you must have millions already, and don't care about anybody but yourself!!

Or, I just don't understand your mumble jumble!! Sometimes, it is OK to be silent "So-In-credible"

What "Big Polluter". Last I saw industry is following the as now pollution regs. In case anayone hasen't noticed climate is natural and varible. Earths overall temp. has been increasing .7 degrees since the last ice age. In 98 the temp. stopped rising and for the last five years has been decreasing. The money making scam that the global warmers are running is starting to fall apart thats why people like Jaccard are making so much noise for the last while, trying to milk the scam while it lasts.
THIS IS A NONPARTISAN JOKE THAT CAN BE ENJOYED BY All PARTIES!
NOT ONLY THAT-- it is POLITICALLY CORRECT!!

While walking down the street one day a "Member of Parliament" is tragically hit by a truck and dies.

His soul arrives in heaven and is met by St. Peter at the entrance.

'Welcome to heaven,' says St. Peter. 'Before you settle in, it seems there is a problem. We seldom see a high official around these parts, you see, so we're not sure what to do with you.'

'No problem, just let me in,' says the man.

'Well, I'd like to, but I have orders from higher up. What we'll do is have you spend one day in hell and one in heaven. Then you can choose where to spend eternity.'

'Really, I've made up my mind. I want to be in heaven,' says the MP.

'I'm sorry, but we have our rules.'

And with that, St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell. The doors open and he finds himself in the middle of a green golf course. In the distance is a clubhouse and standing in front of it are all his friends and other politicians who had worked with him.

Everyone is very happy and in evening dress. They run to greet him, shake his hand, and reminisce about the good times they had while getting rich at the expense of the people.

They play a friendly game of golf and then dine on lobster, caviar and champagne.

Also present is the devil, who really is a very friendly & nice guy who has a good time dancing and telling jokes. They are having such a good time that before he realizes it, it is time to go.

Everyone gives him a hearty farewell and waves while the elevator rises...

The elevator goes up, up, up and the door reopens on heaven where St. Peter is waiting for him.

'Now it's time to visit heaven.'

So, 24 hours pass with the MP joining a group of contented souls moving from cloud to cloud, playing the harp and singing. They have a good time and, before he realizes it, the 24 hours have gone by and St. Peter returns.

'Well, then, you've spent a day in hell and another in heaven. Now choose your eternity.'

The MP reflects for a minute, then he answers: 'Well, I would never have said it before, I mean heaven has been delightful, but I think I would be better off in hell.'

So St. Peter escorts him to the elevator and he goes down, down, down to hell.

Now the doors of the elevator open and he's in the middle of a barren land covered with waste and garbage.

He sees all his friends, dressed in rags, picking up the trash and putting it in black bags as more trash falls from above.

The devil comes over to him and puts his arm around his shoulder. 'I don't understand,' stammers the MP. 'Yesterday I was here and there was a golf course and clubhouse, and we ate lobster and caviar, drank champagne, and danced and had a great time. Now there's just a wasteland full of garbage and my friends look miserable.

What happened?'

The devil looks at him, smiles and says, 'Yesterday we were campaigning.. ..

Today you voted for the NDP.'
I'm willing to listen to what she has to say. I won't forget the old NDP, but that doesn't mean I can't give the new NDP some consideration. Gordon Campbell has sold us out.
No, taxinapothole, pollution is NOT okay in the name of 'big business'. Or any other size business.

But with what BOTH James and Campbell are advocating right now it is WE who will be paying the 'financial' costs of their so-called attempts to 'stop global warming' without having the 'financial' means to do that paying. The only way we can get those 'financial' means will cause MORE pollution, not less.

Both prescriptions are no more than a tax grab which will do NOTHING towards curbing world wide carbon emissions. Government can already 'regulate' pollution, and does. There's no need, other than to further extract taxation out of us to have either a carbon tax, or the NDP's likely more expensive alternative.

I tend to be as sceptical about the 'man-made' causes of 'global warming' as Seamutt is. But aside from whether our carbon releasing activites are going to cause us to melt or not, taxing them isn't the right solution.
So lets see, Ms. James likes Gordo's tax cuts but also proposes huge spending increases. Sounds pretty scary to me.

You can't spend your way out of tough economic times. Doesn't look like the NDP has learned much in the past few years.
Right on, socredible!
NDP ?
What IS that ?
LOL yamadoopolcat!but the real joke is that people are still willing to give Ms James and the NDP any form of attention.Ms James can you and your silly little party please be quite you are really giving us all a headache
This is great! If words keep coming out this idiot I won't even have to bother voting to keep 'em out of office.
NDP will always scare off business. No big money from mines etc will start until they make sure BC is not dumb enough to vote them in. BC has boomed under the BC Liberals and thats a fact. If the union worker wants to have a job then big business must survive and big business only comes under a BC Liberal party.
NDP = No Damn Profit.
From now on (annually) the newly added road maintenance levy on my property tax bill will have a greater impact on my finances than the new provincial carbon tax.

I can reduce my carbon footprint to pay less carbon tax but I can not do anything about the other increase.

The complaining about the new road levy has died down, but everybody seems to think that the sky is falling because we have been asked to burn less fossil fuels.

As for the NDP: nothing is easier than spending borrowed taxpayers' money, including that of still unborn future generations!

We need another leader/party in provincial politics. NDP is too scary and the Liberals have no competition!
.
I won't forget the New Democrats either. They brought us Medicare, minimum wages, the Agricultural Land Reserve, I.C.B.C., and stuff like that. Trust me, New Democrats would never have dreamt of sliding BCRail into somebody's private pocket.

Sadly, these stereotypes seem to work against us. Having a two-party system in which one group of citizens insults the other group of citizens just keeps us occupied while Mr Big does as he pleases with things like B.C. Rail. Yelling at each other doesn't really get us anywhere. Actually, it sets us back.

Couldn't we work out a way in which we can join forces and focus on the issues?

Take BC Rail, for example. We all know, by now, that the Campbell Government is desperate to keep that deal secret. Why do you suppose that is?

For one thing, did B.C. ever actually get paid that $1Billion? Did you see Gordo's photo op. with that big fat cheque? Nope, me either. Because there wasn't one.

For another thing, there's rumoured to be a 5-year clause in which more major assets are to be transferred into CN ownership for ... $1. Assets such as BCR's waterfront lands in North Vancouver. This will happen on July 14, 2009 ... right after the next provincial election ... if we don't do something about it. Like, maybe at that provincial election.

Here's what I figure. I figure that if anybody (I don't care who, as long as they're honest and they care about British Columbia) ... anybody who wants to be the next premier simply has to say: "When I am premier, I will immediately release every document requested by the Basi, Virk, Basi defense team. That will save millions of dollars in legal fees. Then the trial -- after 5 years of waiting -- can proceed. And whatever went wrong, we'll hear about it as the evidence is given under oath. Then we can repair the damage and get a fresh start."

As it is, nobody knows the answer to the nightmare question which has hung over B.C. since the police raided the Legislature: "Does Organized Crime have a foothold in government?" Because if it does, the longer we wait, the more difficult it will be to eradicate.

This is an issue far, far too big to be solved simply by yelling insults at each other. The consequences are bloody awful, if we don't get our wits together and fix things.

There's a lot more about BC Rail on my web-site, if you care to look in at: http://bctrialofbasi-virk.blogspot.com/
