Canfor Corporation has announced a production curtailment at its Taylor Pulp mill, due to falling demand and prices in Asia over the past four weeks.

The impact on production as a result of this curtailment will be approximately 5,000 tonnes.

The curtailment will start November 10th, with operations expected to resume November 18th. Canfor will take advantage of this downtime to perform maintenance work.

“The temporary shutdown reflects the difficult market conditions facing pulp companies in British Columbia,” said Canfor President and CEO, Jim Shepard. “By taking steps like these, Canfor hopes to rebalance inventories while maintaining current customer commitments.”

Maybe the gang looking for financial assistance for the Community Performance Center should hit up Canfor for a little help. :)

Yet our local government still is looking at spending money on "Nice to Have" stuff.....

Let's bring some realism to things people... Our Major Industry is in Serious Trouble.... which also happens to be the base to our tax revenue.... yes this announcement is in the Peace.... but Canfor is the MAJOR economic driver in Prince George... it's only a matter of time....
Should be interesting to see who is still operating when the next timber supply review comes in for the Central Interior.
